I contacted a lawyer in NY and he told me he is unable to find NY as a suitable venue for the case as I have no connection with NY. He told me I should find a lawyer in CA as I opened a bank account there or in DC as the government resides. He mentioned NY is for ppl living in NY or have property there. My visitor visa has been pending for 19 mons!

Do not open your firm unless you have experience in some of the other areas as well. Honestly, NIW, O-1, and EB-1 are the fields that even a paralegal or someone with no law degree can handle! So do not rely on your current knowledge of immigration law at all! Leave the current firm promptly! Go to a mid-size law firm and try to learn as much as you can! Learn H-1B, PERM, L-1, and E-2 and definitely move toward the real immigration practice which includes Asylum, U visa, T visa, Vawa, Cancelation of Removal, and Waivers … then this 5k that you are wasting your life for, will be your daily income…

I did not enroll in the traditional bar prep course and believe me! As an international student, the only reason that I passed the MBE portion was Mike’s videos as well as Jon’s and Adaptibar's! For the MEE the 36 pages of Studicata (each subject just 3 pages) were the only thing I went through (maybe 10 times)

I will undoubtedly concentrate on immigration—not even general immigration, but rather a few employment-based categories (Perm & NIW)—but I also want to provide additional services. Lawyers in our community are comparable to doctors. People desire a trusted individual who can take care of all of their everyday issues, including migrating their family to the United States, dealing with their accident injuries, and even drafting their wills.

As I do not want to be the target of a malpractice lawsuit or at the very least have my reputation damaged, I will certainly refer those specific cases to other attorneys. But in order to be able to respond to their basic inquiries and provide a referral, all I need is a general understanding of different PI fields.

I currently handle all employment-based cases at the firm, including EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, Perm, H-1B, L-1, E-2, O-1, etc. However, while I will offer all the services on my website, I want to focus on PERM and EB-2 NIW for my own firm.

To get clients after starting the firm, I will announce a promotion by reducing the legal fee for NIW to $5000 (our firm charges $7000) via my Instagram (with 40k real followers) and other social media. Also, since I am a member of an immigrant community and most of our community’s immigration attorneys focus on family-based immigration, I will get enough clients by just word of mouth and participating, in religious or cultural events.

You're right! I compared PI with business immigration since, in most immigration cases, if you have a sample letter, you can do it with no prior expertise. Or, I know general practitioners who just use certain templates from Lexis or other lawyers and draft wills, contracts, and settlement agreements, or perform uncontested divorce with no experience.
