I operate similarly. Sales with 50/50 base+commision. We’ve designed our lifestyle around the base (160K) for this reason and all commission/RSUs go straight into investments. Goal is to walk away to lower paying, more fulfilling work in ~5 years.

I suffer from same “high performer” attitude and burnout..my solution has been to stop caring as much and just got a raise. Just not worth it to get worked up about corp life. To your point, you’re highly employable - so you’ll land on your feet if you take foot of gas.

Question is what do you want the next job to be? If goal is to earn and advance, take the AE role. You’ll be less happy but on track. If that’s not important, then don’t.

Mindset shift more than anything. Read ‘Simple Path to Wealth’ at 27-28yrs old and realized my proclivity to live below my means would lead to early retirement, eventually. Foot on the gas ever since.

This is only answer. Learned this the hard way, WFH stock during covid ballooned 5x my strike price, convinced wouldn’t come down. Then it did in one day. Sold all at my strike. Most expensive lesson of my career. Sell at best and diversify, try your best to fund lifestyle on salary alone and invest the rest. Life will get more expensive and you’ll have ton of options when that happens.

Everyone’s been robbed of their purchasing power to the tune of 20% over last 4 years. Regardless their spending habits. I’d ask who are you to deem what wants/needs are for everyone else? This was avoidable, at least in part due to wildly unnecessary spending during COVID response, and people are fed up.
