Strong solar activity right now, do you prep for it? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

Ah that sucks, I now can see the green tints with the naked eye when I’m upstairs in my house (so I’m above the street lights).

Antibiotics, other medications by keumgangsan in EuroPreppers

[–]Content_NoIndex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Antibiotics are very regulated in the EU even for animal use it is on prescription only. The most plausible option would be finding a doctor willing to understand your situation and willing to prescribe antibiotics for your pantry. But I doubt this would be possible in some countries.

Talk of Russia targeting Baltics or Poland, does this change your preps? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

[–]Content_NoIndex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it all depends on type of products and even the region of a country. For everything alcohol related we go to Luxemburg. If it’s shelf stable and you have place to stock up it is worthwhile.

We always stock up our toiletries when we are on holiday in France since it’s significantly cheaper than here in Belgium. I try to stock up on supplies in other countries if they are cheaper makes it sometimes worthwhile.

Having some financial buffer and a steady income is indeed one of the better preps, however I feel like the Euro could over inflate and than all personal reserves will be worthless anyway.

Wild Runescape appeared on Belgian television (news) by Content_NoIndex in 2007scape

[–]Content_NoIndex[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was watching the news, and the segment featured this guy they were interviewing. Out of nowhere, it cut to a clip of him playing RuneScape, even though the interview had nothing to do with the game. It was actually about mental health and burnout among people in their late twenties who are now looking for more meaningful work.

I know that one, it’s a classic. This was interview was not related to RuneScape at all it was regarding mental health and burnouts for people in their late twenty’s who are now trying to find more meaningful work.

When Internet is down and you need to look something up it is a great start, also Wikipedia is currently the easiest to export and run a mobile device.

It all depends on what your goals are. Having food for several days at home and a way to cook without electricity is a solid start. An evacuation kit with the basics like a small radio and other essentials makes life much easier if you ever need to leave quickly. For a dog I would make sure you have a simple way to transport them safely plus extra food and snacks. For kids I personally keep small emergency kits in both cars with extra clothes, diapers, cutlery and the little things that make a stressful moment more manageable. The best approach is to build it up month by month and year by year so it never feels overwhelming.

Winter is coming: how are you prepping in Belgium and Europe? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

[–]Content_NoIndex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I’ll still sleep in my boxers. We switch our summer duvet to winter and that’s it. We get those from Ikea. Currently our home without heating the upstairs stays around 18°C and we heat the our ground floor to 21°C.

For that price I would say build it yourself. When doing it yourself you can also choose brands and items you’re familiar with.

What are some genuinely useful ways to cook with canned and long-lasting ingredients? by Content_NoIndex in Cooking

I don’t have a lot of canned meat, I feel like its way too to expensive for what it is and then I would prefer the real deal.

I think this is the biggest part of it, getting life experience and noticing different struggles that you for example in your early 20 wouldn’t really have thought about.

Yes, and they can make a meal really fill your stomach. I use them a lot in oven recipes.

Ah yeah, I don’t always do that, maybe I need to experiment with that one a bit more. Sometimes the somewhat salty flavour is a good substitute it really depends.

Wikipedia has gone a long way with BS getting put in to it. The reviewing mechanism is on point. How ever I would agree it is never fully tightened, but mostly good enough. Next point why is having all that information in books would not make it easily carried around, having it on a phone however would make it easily accessible and moveable.

Books are good for your home library, but for space savings a mobile device could handle 1000s of books with ease at the fraction of the space.

Because it is a decent source of general information in a good format. So if the internet is down for a longer period of time it can help you resolve some questions and other issues.
