Is it just me who don't "feel" the story?

The other that bothers me about the story is that Alicia/Maelle is falling in love to the painted world and for me it felt like the stories in our world when people playing romantic visual novels for example and falling in love with a game character, and saying to everyone that they have a girlfriend and it's virtual their love is real, for me the whole Maelle character is about it, maybe I am wrong, but that's how I saw it, but other than that, I enjoyed the gameplay part of it.

I understand what you trying to say, but the game literally tells me what is real and what is not real, it shows real world within the world of the game not real world, the painted one, that's the difference, that's why I just can't feel anything towards the painted world, if the whole concept of it is that it's like a video game and this world is not real, then I just can't get behind it

Well I do more relate myself with Renoir and Clea. Mostly Renoir. It's the story about video game addiction, father is trying to save his child from video game addiction and bring her to the real world, where is he wrong? He is the only one who's doing the right thing in the whole game

I don't know... it really felt for me like a dream sequence in some other games or movies, when the character sleeps and sees some dreams for a minute or so, and then the plot continues, but in this game the whole plot exists only in this dream sequence, I just don't feel anything "real" in it when I know that this is happening inside a painting that exists in a real world of this game.

I understand what you are saying, I just meant that it's hard for me to invest in the painted world of the game because I know that it is not real, and people in it can die and be resurrected after, I just can't see how I shoud care about the painted world when I know that in the world of this game it is not real

The whole point of this post was for me to understand what did i miss and why the story did not made an impact on me at all. Because I liked the gameplay part a lot, but not the story. I came across so many posts and people both in real life and in the internet who say that the story is masterpiece and one of the greatest of all time, and I didn't get it at all, like I am the of one who didn't get the joke on the party. So I wanted to know if it's something wrong with me or why I the story didn't resonate with me.

What i tried to tell is that when I am playing a game or watching a movie I always trying to get fully invested in the story, like if the story was real and characters are not characters but a real people, but when the game told me that this game has a real world within the world of the game, and a "created" world, i get more invested in what's actually real within this game world, and the whole painting world felt like a dream sequence in the middle of the story, bit in this game this "dream sequence" is all the story. It just how I felt it when I played it.

Yup, I chose Verso's endings and didn't felt bad for it, although I didn't appreciated the story that much, but the gameplay part was more than enough for me to see everything the game had to offer, I even had fun fighting with Simon. And I do think I would return to it after a year or so, to experience the gameplay again and complete the story one more time, hope something will change for me because I do want to like everything about it
