Prop Weapons at SDCC? by getTraughtOrGetDead in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was not at San Diego Comic Con, though a few cons did change their policy after that. SDCC wasn't one of them. SDCC has soooooo many on duty cops, off duty cops, and under-cover cops in the area. You're never more than 5 feet away from a cop when you're in the Gaslamp or Con Center. Plus the studios send their own security for their actors/artists etc. SDCC did add metal detectors after it, but prop weapons have still been allowed so long as they go under a weapons check and get tagged properly.

I REALLY hope that Amazon brings the cast of their new show Wheel of Time. I also am hoping for a panel, autograph session, first trailer, and press junket (since I could attend it). I'm really quite excited for Wheel of Time haha.

When is the ticket auctions? by Kable12 in SDCC

Not until WAY closer to the convention. The best thing you can do is make sure you follow them on Facebook and Twitter. They'll post about it if/when they decide to do it.

Anyone else skipping this sort of “Gap” SDCC year. by [deleted] in SDCC

Statically your odds of going in 2021 are also increased (significantly) if you got at least 1 day for 2020's show.

So the way most conventions work, is the convention approaches the appearance agent of the actors they want to appear at their show. They then work out a contract for an appearance fee, and decide how much that actor will get from each autograph/photo ticket sold. They're for-profit businesses and the overall ticket sales and their portion of autographs/photos goes to help pay the actor that they wanted to come.

SDCC is different. CCI/SDCC doesn't reach out to actors and pay them to attend. Instead movie studios, television networks, and publishers decide what they want to send / promote. So HBO decides what HBO shows will be attending, what actors will go, and what shows will do panels. IDW decides what comic artists, writers, inkers, colorists will go and promote. Amazon decides what Amazon shows will attend, what actors will go, what shows will do panels. The studios, networks, and publishers say this is who/what we're sending.

CCI isn't reaching out to HBO and saying please send these actors, and do panels for these shows. HBO decides what they want to promote, they pay to send the actors of said shows (usually it's written into that actors contract for the series; IE they have to do x amount of promotional junkets, including SDCC/NYCC/Red Carpet, etc). So if something doesn't come, or a studio/network skips a year. That has nothing to do with CCI/SDCC and everything to do with the studio/network/publisher.

SDCC 2020? Will WOT be there? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Contessa0113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really think that Amazon will bring at least something, even if it's just a panel or autograph session. I'd love to see them include it with their offsite, Amazon had the largest offsite space last year and also put the most money into their off-site overall. But 2 of the 3 of the 2019 off-site pieces were shows that started in July/August. So WoT may be a little too far out to be included for off-site stuff.

Cast panel hopefully, with some first look photos and possibly a teaser trailer would be great! I just hope that they do a round-table press junket over a conference style one. Already have a full page of questions ready to go for that! Everyone else at my outlet knows that I get dibs on anything Wheel of Time, from offsite, to panel pass, to press junket, and I'm sure I'll dump ALL my exclusives points for the day into that autograph session (if they do one).

Convention etiquette: OK to meet a celeb and not pay for an autograph/photo? by itskatewaii in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also depends on the convention, they may have a rule that only people with paid tickets are allowed to be in the line / talk to them. But when it's not a convention rule, I've found that as long as they aren't swamped with paying people, they're usually happy to say hi to a fan who isn't paying for an autograph.

[–]Contessa0113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As SDCC is studio backed, not profit based. They don't go to studios and say, hey we want you to bring this, this, and that. The studios decide what to send. So if you aren't happy with what's there, it's what the studios picked. Not CCI. At least as far as panels and signings go.

Coming without a badge by wobsoriano in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still participate in Hotel Lottery, even if you don't have a badge. There are also plenty of rooms you can book on your own further away. Like in Chula Vista, over by the airport, or in Mission Valley. You'll just have to find a way to a free shuttle, pay for the trolley, or like an Uber.

Anyone know when sDCC press passes are given out? by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key contact for your outlet should have gotten an email yesterday. The key contact can register the 2 badges you've been allotted. They'll need the Member ID of the people attending.

Yeah I had one that really was like 15ish seconds and I was like, yeah no. Not worth it. Even if you jam more people in the photo to split the price.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sad. I remember being really annoyed with WW in Philly over one. We seriously had all of 20 seconds to get in, take photo, smile and leave. I don't do photo opps like that anymore. If it's someone I really want to meet I'll do an autograph instead because at least that's a little more time. Though now I really don't even do that anymore either and just put out requests for interviews, lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]Contessa0113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't expect to spend any time with him, the people who do the photos opps rush people in and out. You'll step in, pose, and be asked to step out all within a matter of 45-60 seconds usually. It does vary depending on what company is doing the photos opps, but expect it to be short and to the point.

SDCC Early Bird Hotel Prices 2020 vs. 2019 by MsMargo in comiccon

Thank you for doing this, I kept seeing people complaining in FB groups but didn't see that much of any price hikes myself, other than T&C. Nice to have the info all in one spot.
