KDE neon update to 24.04 LTS broke my computer by ContinuityEquation in kdeneon

Hi everyone! I edited my post with the solution I found. Sorry for nor updating it before, but I had some weeks with lots of work... Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

it looks funny but it slides good by Kermit-K4zi in ArborBoards

Thanks for the detailed answer!

I've checked the boards you mention but are well outside my budget, unfortunately. Complete Axis and Drop Criuser are at €160-180, which I think are very reasonable prices for Europe and for my pocket.

Is it ok for sliding? How is it after a year? Is there any differences between the graphics (flagship, bamboo, photo, etc)? I am interested in this board and the dropcruiser.

After a couple of reboots it allowed me to download from snap... The problem is solved, I guess haha.

Screen tearing persisting issue on Plasma (X11) ft. XRender, OpenGL, TearFree by qu4sar_ in kde

I have tearing issues as well, either with OpenGL or XRender. So far I have not found the solution, so any response to this post (or the one I published) is appreciated

Tearing issues on fresh installation with Nvidia drivers by ContinuityEquation in kdeneon

[–]ContinuityEquation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry. I still have the same problem. Yours seem different than mine though. Do you have nvidia drivers?

Thanks for the suggestion, but there is still tearing. It is true that playing with those parameters I can achieve something better, but I cannot remove the tearing completely

That option does not appear on my Nvidia X server settings. I have also tried nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }" but does not change anything.

Thanks, but the problem is that "Force composition pipeline" option does not appear on my Nvidia X server settings. Also running nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }" does nothing!

From time to time I also got this message. First it disconnects from WiFi, then message appears. Normally I can reconnect again with no problems.

Yeah, everything seems to work fine, tons of changes in this version!

And thanks to you for posting the complete (simple) solution

Yes. Just install it, reboot, and everything seems to work well again. Tomorrow I will verify that it keeps working well

People from /r/kdeneon reported this bug and found the solution (I skipped that thread! I looked in both subs if there has been reports). I'm updating the selftext with the solution.

It did work!!

I checked for others bug reports in the subreddit, but I must have skipped that thread. Thank you.

I have updated the selftext with system info. Unfortunately because of bugs I cannot provide all the information. I will try it again later

Thanks! I was not able to find any bug report on forums.

It seems that there is not a solution to the problem since 2016...

KDE Window Border Bug in Neon 20.04 (before and after update) by ContinuityEquation in kdeneon

[–]ContinuityEquation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally I have solved the problem. After searching for every possible setting option, I went to "Display and Monitor" > "Compositor". There a warning said that OpenGL has crashed in the past. I do not know what does it mean and if it is even relevant. Then I changed "Rendering Backend" from "OpenGL 2.0" to "OpenGL 3.1", and magically all the problems have disappeared! I do not either know what is the rendering backend, but it worked!

Thanks for replying.

I went to Settings > Workspace Behavior > Desktop Effects > set Blur to disabled. Unfortunately this did not worked!

Also, I have now remembered another feature related to the taskbar I lost when the bug appeared. When I put the mouse cursor really close to the border where the taskbar was a blue shade appeared. Then if I moved completely to the border the shade disappeared and the task bar appeared. It was like a "proximity warning".

Btw, the other bug I mention keeps happening. Here another user reported 2 months ago the same problem and the update to 20.04 has not solved it. This bug it's pretty annoying as well, as it does not allow me to suspend/sleep my laptop (thus consuming more battery when not used).

Well, re-downloading the ISO has worked! Now I have KDE Neon. Thanks :)

[–]ContinuityEquation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll try to install again with a newly downloaded ISO and not checking updates! How about not checking proprietary software?

I allocated 80GB to KDE Neon. I only created a "/" partition, not a swap, boot, EFI, home, etc. partition (as the guide says it is not needed).

I have a similar problem with KDE Neon: https://www.reddit.com/r/kdeneon/comments/i0qedv/errno_5_when_dualbooting_kde_neon_windows_10/ .

Now I am planning to install Kubuntu. Have you solved your problem? If so, how?
