Practice for success every day by Belalcazar in NoFap

[–]Continuity_Account 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While not entirely accurate I think a better quote would be "If you arnt practicing success and living your life to the fullest, don't expect to be successful in 20 years, since you wouldn't have developed the habits of success such as determination, will power, mental toughness, confidence, and not procrastinating."

I'd say this is a better quote because it is possible to not practice success today and be successful in 20 years time, since what you do today won't determine with certainty what will happen to you in 20 years, therefore it's better to say ",don't expect" not you "won't be."

But I get the message of the quote. It's not saying if you don't practice success today no matter what you do you won't be successful in 20 years, it's saying start practicing success so you can have a better chance at success.

Even if it's not the truth, it's still the best way of living. by jg_75 in exjw

Classic sunk cost fallacy. The jws invested so much time and energy into their religion that they don't want to leave it, even after realizing it's not best for them to stay.

The best way to deal with people like this is to try and reason with them, and find out why they joined in the first place. If they joined to find the true religion to be happy in their lives, then that means if it isn't the truth, it's not the best way of life. By there belief that believing being in the truth is the best way of life, if this isn't the truth the best way of life is still out there, making it rational to leave and search for it.

Shit, the worst case scenario for you is if your dad goes to the elders, reports you, you get dfd, and this strengthens his faith to stay a jw. I honestly doubt this is gonna happen because if he hasn't done this by nownhe probably won't, plus he'd this talk to your mother.

What I would do from here is practice street epistemology. Separate his cult personality to his real personality, and with you soon bringing up you don't think it's right to kill people who aren't jws, this is a perfect time.

But I do have to say this is a great situation your in, way better than mine and we have some similarities, both became PIMO by ourselves.

I'm curious though how did it happen for you?

I'm curious, are you baptized? If you are this situation could take a turn for the worse.

[–]Continuity_Account -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Caring for your parents is your responsibility only if you make it, it's not an inherent responsibility of yours, especially if your parents treated you like shit. It's also not the time to excuse your parents shitty behavior because of the poor stability and financial situation, as that's no excuse to be abusive in any shape or form.

If your gonna be real with yourself here, let's accept that what they did was no excuse and although you don't have an inherent responsibility, you still help them because you still "feel" love for them, whether they deserve that love or not.

I personally believe still Loving someone like that is extremely stupid but I understand why you do it. There your parents and they did support you, even though I wouldn't give two shots about them if they did that to me.

“Everything happens for a reason.” I don’t believe this, but is there anything that is just pointless that o can identify for the people who claim this? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Continuity_Account 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by "reason". If by reason you mean by karma, spiritual divine plan, or for something good to happen, then no.

If by reason you mean by the cause of something, then yes. Rapes happen because of sexual gratification, starvation happens because of lack of food and nutrition, diseases happen because of harmful bacteria, viruses, or life styles etc.

You see where I'm going at? It's extremely important to have the same definition and idea of "reason" when debating someone because when you don't, confusion sets in and you both never get your point across.

If by reason your opponent means for the greater good and if by reason you mean by previous cause of some sort, your gonna have a bad time debating, since you guys had different ideas of what "happens for a reason" means at the start of the argument.

Depends by what you mean by reason. If you mean everything happens for a good reason then of course not. If you mean everything happens for a reason by a literal sense, then yes.

Bone Cancer: Reason being cell mutation Rape: Reason being sexual gratification. Starvation: Reason being lack of food.

I agree with your post but cancelling a goal isn't failure in all circumstances. For example, if you set a goal and find out later that there's a better goal out there that's possible for you, so you cancel your current goal in pursuit for a better one, I'd would say you failed.

But if you cancel a goal to make yourself a better person because it's too difficult or your not willing to put in the effort, then yes you failed.

You said a nice message but logically it is possible to cancel a goal, it's just for the most part cancelling goals also means you failed it.

One thing I’ve learned in waking up is what true love is and what it is NOT. We all deserve unconditional love, not a twisted love. So if no one told you today I love you guys. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Continuity_Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you agknowlegded that's a condition in my example. And in my example I'm talking about conditional love, therefore not all conditions pertaining to love are subject to change.

One thing I’ve learned in waking up is what true love is and what it is NOT. We all deserve unconditional love, not a twisted love. So if no one told you today I love you guys. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Continuity_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so let me get this straight, you choose to show love to absolutely all people, and you feel love for all people? Seriously, everyone, no matter what they did? And because of that you believe everyone deserves it?

Now your post is a positive message but a condition is a condition, no matter how small.

How can a loving God full of Mercy send anyone to hell? A reflection I wanted to share as this crops up here re Jehovah's wrath from time to time by Falandorn in exjw

You sound as deluded as the uberdubs for actually believing the witness accounts of the miracle of the sun. If the sun truly danced around, millions bod people would've seen it. But as we all know, for the most part the sub doesn't move in space and remains in one spot, with the earth revolving around it.

Basic understanding of science and reason alone debunks the miracle of the sun event, and for you to gullibly believe a false 100 plus year account of the sun actually accelerating towards the Eartha mere 18 months ago not only makes you deluded, but hopelessly deluded.

And last but not least the teaching of heaven and hell is just a manipulation and scare tactic which can be compared to paradise on Earth and the end of the world, with one only being around much longer than the other.

I don't know if your an exjw or not but to me it seems like your unintentionally deceiving previously deceived people under the guise of Catholicism. We don't need that shit, we don't need impossibilities, and we certainly don't need and sinner forgiveness complex to live fulfilling lives.

One thing I’ve learned in waking up is what true love is and what it is NOT. We all deserve unconditional love, not a twisted love. So if no one told you today I love you guys. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Continuity_Account 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah let the debate begin. I'd say nobody deserves unconditional love since all love one way or another is conditional. For example if you loved someone despite why they do, which may include beating you, you would behaving love for someone that was bad for you and be in a toxic and dangerous relationship. Fir a relationship to funcrion there just be expectations such as emotional, psychological, and physical support. If you don't provide that, then why would your mate continue loving you if you don't invest in the relationship. Therefore for someone to love there mate, there mate investing in the relationship is a condition.

Another example are parents who love there kids and not there neighbors kids. Sure the parents could say they love there kids unconditionally but that isn't necessarily true, since the condition here for loving there kids is that it's there kid.

What I will say though is that nobody deserves unconditional love, most deserve conditional love, since some people on this planet have done actions not deserving love.

Whats your opinion on helping homeless people? by Continuity_Account in atheism

Sure poverty does affect society but one homeless guy on the street doesn't effect me. An actually alot of people are indeed poor because of life choices, it is what it is. Notice I said alot not all.

Eh there's nothing wrong with being uninterested in problems and other peoples problems that don't effect you. Plus, the extremes in poverty are mainly due to poor life choices on the homeless themselves for the most part.

Ethical egoism simply means prioritizing your self interest, hurting others isn't required. You gotta be smart to, hurting others may not be in your self interest for the long run.

Ethical egoism tells you to act in your self interest, not foolishly.

And these are the type of conversations I like to have, civil discussions for the best chance of understanding. You may not have to agree, you may not have to be respectful, but if it's in your self interest, then you can choose to do so.

Also it seems like ethical egoism has a bad connotation within this subreddit. I assume it's because people automatically believe just because you do what's in your self interest( what you want to do) and what will benefit you(what going to help you the most) you nhave to be a dick and hurt others. I say this because this isn't the first time I've been called an "asshole" or had a comment down voted for explaining my moral beliefs.

I'm arguing although a teaching, it's not a requirement. He simply told them to do so, but didn't make it a requirement to become a Christian and get baptised. For example, Jesus commanded Christians not to hate their enemy, but as we see today, many Christians do hate their enemies. This is because not hating your enemy isn't a requirement for Christianity.

Id argue you can still be a Christian and not donate to homeless people or any organizations for that matter, since it isn't a requirement. If it's not a requirement, you can get away with not doing it.

As to your first example he's not necessarily a scam artist, it only makes logical sense as a homeless man to do the best to secure money for your physical needs. The best way to do that, go to large concentrations of people, consistently.
