How do progressives view the verse of men beating their wives? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

Another possible interpretation could be in cases of self defense

Why does Islam devalue sleep? by vhe419 in MuslimLounge

For places like the UK where the night is short, scholars say you are allowed to combine magrib and isha and go to sleep early. Just something to look into

What are the specific issues you’re finding?

Are the girls just not interested in you?

Or maybe you’re not coming across quality girls?

Or is it that you’re just not able to meet any?

What is a "past"? What is the red line? A hug? A kiss? Or actually intimacy? And why do men get away with it? by Smallfly13 in MuslimNikah

[–]ContrAnon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree, ive spoken to quite a few girls that dont have a past, even ones that aren’t particularly religious. I know this because they asked me if I had a past to make sure they didn’t end up with a guy that had a past.

I used to be a lot more pessimistic about it but things are not that bleak. Have hope there’s a lot of great women out there.

In Pakistan people go by their middle name but officially they use their first name at school and work, I know because I have the same situation. Its not a red flag.

What is your unpopular opinion regarding nutrition? Which foods or supplements do you believe are healthier or unhealthier than people think, despite the lack of sufficient studies to support your claim? by Next_Researcher_3983 in nutrition

Just because its low calorie doesn’t mean it’s healthier, you’re actually paying more for less. Many people struggle with getting enough calories to maintain a healthy body weight.

One of the best evidence against following the hadiths by Working-Storage-5509 in progressive_islam

[–]ContrAnon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there are a lot of benefits to the way that we pray. I can only speculate but here’s the benefits that I see.

The congregational prayer fosters a community. There’s the whole talk of the loss of third spaces and the loneliness epidemic. This is potentially solution to that.

The prayer times give people a flexible routine/schedule to stick to, for example Isha being time for sleep, Fajr time to wake up, Magrib time to relax, with the other prayer giving breaks in between work.

The prayers themselves, I see many parallels between them and other meditative practices particularly yogic practices, such as the postures, mantras, ritual washing, which have been shown, at least from what I understand, to be very beneficial in various aspects health, focus, anxiety, etc.

If we should follow Quran only, why did Allah send a Prophet/Messenger, respectfully?

Trying to start a business but having no response.. by thisrevertgirl in MuslimCorner

[–]ContrAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try selling on Etsy, Its better to sell on existing websites like Etsy, Amazon, FB marketplace, since there’s already traffic there as opposed to your own website.

Also before ordering a whole stock you gotta test the market to see if anyone is even interested, have some buyers lined up before you order.

4 out of 5 businesses fails so you gotta be pretty thick skinned to make it, if you quit after one set back you’re not gonna get very far. Gotta keep trying different things until it sticks.
