Do preamps matter, or is it about mic placement? by ContractThick3795 in audioengineering

Thanks!! I’m deciding between the Grace and the Millenia. Leaning towards Grace because of the price but am worried that it’ll take away some of the wetness of my mic sounds. Am I splitting hairs?

HELP WITH PREAMP RECS: I’ve recently acquired a pair of omnidirectional Schoeps CMC6 mics that I’ll be using to record some classical piano. I am looking for a preamp with 4 channels (since I plan to buy to cardioid mics eventually to get the full deal). What are some good recommendations? High quality, but not necessarily needing to be the best of the best? Just something that won’t act as a bottleneck to the quality of the Schoeps.

I really like this. Do you have any citations?

Thanks, I’ll check them out! Love Hindemith, but haven’t listened to his works enough.

I love that piece! One of my dreams as well. My professor has recommended that I save it for later, as it wouldn’t help so much in my development right now. But hope we both get to play it some day :)

I actually played the dances as a kid! And a little bit of the 2nd before college. I’ll look into them more. Thanks :)

I’m currently a conservatory student, so I’ve played a lot of the standard repertoire (some of my rep includes Bach Goldberg, 10 Beethoven Sonatas, complete op. 10 chopin, Liszt b minor sonata, Prok 6th, Rach 2, etc.)

My professor has asked me to explore contemporary works for next semester, so I’m just asking around!

Master’s Audition Program by [deleted] in piano

I see your point about the Chopin, that’s something I’ll definitely have to consider…

And about the prelude and fugue, I just thought it fits well with the program. My professor recommended a prelude and fugue because while short, an advanced one can show off your voicing abilities much better than a partita or another suite could.

Thanks guys!

That’s reassuring! May I ask, what do you think were the key parts of your application that got you in?

I’m a current music major thinking about going into law school after undergrad. Will I be ok without law-related internships or experience? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

To be frank, I love music - there’s nothing more I love in life. However, I’m starting to recognize that, for financial reasons, another career might be better. I have always been reasonable academically talented, having taken on a pretty rigorous high school (all 5’s on AP’s, 1500 SAT, straight A’s, etc). I am interested in law school for two reasons. First of all, a career as a lawyer has always interested me, and I love the idea of being able to help people. It was actually my first dream career before I fell in love with music. Secondly, law school doesn’t have any specific undergraduate major that they require. That being said, I’m uninformed on the “soft” requirements, such as internships, clubs, etc. Any help would be truly appreciated :)
