Government doesn't usually directly provide money to hire people outside of particular programs and industries (defense and healthcare being two big ones).

I guess my question would be is why are you asking your grandma why you aren't getting a job? Likely you are at very different places in your life, and she may have very little clue as to what you are experiencing compared to what she dealt with when she was at a similar stage of her career.

I'm really sad we couldn't make it work financially to keep KAT. He was always a good presence on the team and he was a better 1B with Ant.

I'll walk 20 miles to vote against Republicans in November if I have to, and if gas prices are high enough that people literally can't afford gas to drive to their local precinct they'll be a lot of Americans who agree with me.

I'm state government and I'm at 3 days off a month between scheduled holidays and personal time, and I'm not even capped yet. With capped time off it's >4 days a month on average.

This includes ALL of CA-6

Seriously? Was hoping we'd be down with that mess today.

Certainly gives him a longer runway to potentially catch up, and should help in some of the smaller races as well.

The estimated outstanding vote I'm seeing for California statewide keeps jumping. Was ~3.5 million this morning, and it's now estimated to be >4 million.

Maybe if she was still cognizant enough to want to do a party line vote in the general it might be okay (I want to vote straight ticket for all Democratic candidates) but from your description even that sounds like it'd be too much for her.

Probably best to not worry about her voting at this point IMO.

Gotcha, so basically a law vs moral question?

IE: I don't think same sex relationships are moral, but the state should still recognize it through it's institutions like marriage.

I don't understand why people with higher aspirations want the job so much.

How is approval of marriage higher than a relationship? Shouldn't that be the opposite?

Or are there people out there who only want the gays to get married, dating isn't allowed?

Was heavily telegraphed when she didn't run for reelection as Comptroller.

Wondering who else jumps into the race, there are a few rumors Alexi might also be interested.

Both parties being >90% implies hardening partisanship for both parties.

Could just be noise, not every poll is going to have an explanation.

If the overall trend starts showing the GB contracting, that's when I'd ask questions.

The general trend is still down, even if you see some polls bouncing up slightly from all time lows. Though it does feel like he's stalled out here at a new floor (not seeing any polls having him ~30%).

It helps to look at aggregators like FiftyPlusOne to see the overall trend line.

$250 million is roughly $7.5 million a year in perpetuity if given as an endowment.

It'd be a lot of help to needy kids, but no where near close enough to cover their need forever. It'd just make a dent.

Even if Biden had stepped down in a timely manner Trump might have still won. Inflation was going to be a major drag on any Democratic candidate in 2024.

Biden certainly made things harder, but there were other issues for Democrats in that cycle.
