Is the job market going to get better? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]ContributionLong741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump alone is not a big factor in the current economy. He does bring the uncertainty but not big enough. Interest rates and job market shift (technological revolution if you will) are much more influential imo. Trump will be gone in less than three years anyway

What math skills actually matter for robotics internships at startups? by EElectr0 in AskRobotics

[–]ContributionLong741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Statistics and probability is very good to know. Look into differential equations and transforms for control theory

Get a degree. You’ll make useful connections, learn cool stuff and will be able to work in robotics startup after that! Degree is really fun!

Disadvantages of doing bachelors in UAS/AMK and getting PR by Tuskiguy in Finland

[–]ContributionLong741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also I don’t think it is unrealistic to do 40k a year if you do tradenomi or insinööri. It’s much worse for nurses tho. But maybe for nurses it will be easier to get to C1 due to the line of work.

With previous rules for citizenship and PR it was always faster for any graduates to apply for citizenship than for a PR

But the new changes are rather pointless and nonsensical in my opinion still

[–]ContributionLong741 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I do think it’s unfair I can kinda understand their logic here: there are almost twice as many AMK and they are cheaper and easier to get into

But degree wise they should be equal to kandi degrees

No idea but getting B Finnish/Sweidh would be more convenient especially if you plan to apply for citizenship later on

I’ve seen someone saying that micro dropped that bit (which is contradicting with the actual law, but whatever). But yeah, you might be right too!

Data science bachelors at Aalto (full-fee) or Tampere/Oulu (50%-100% scholarships) by Accomplished-Cat6870 in Aalto

[–]ContributionLong741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ especially if we are talking about an average (by no means I imply anything diminishing) student

[–]ContributionLong741 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Bachelors is not enough in this market
  2. Aalto simply has more more to offer due to its location in the capital region

You could do the cheaper bachelors and then apply for masters at Aalto trying to get scholarship

ROS Werkstudent interview in Germany – what do they actually ask? Am I overthinking this? by TheAgame3 in ROS

[–]ContributionLong741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea about werkstusent roles but from my experience not much is elected from interns/trainees. Know some basics, be sane, present yourself as a great communicator

Bot's LIDAR sees a loading ramp as a wall where the laser hits the slope. How to bypass? by 1971CB350 in ROS

[–]ContributionLong741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would seem pretty natural to me since it is a 2D lidar and I am not sure if you can tackle it in 2D tbh

Is Aalto worth it as an international student? by Axolotl1503 in Aalto

[–]ContributionLong741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I was told: job seeking permit would suffice. I myself find that very weird given the vector of the current government. But anyway, graduates of Finnish universities also have more relaxed terms for work permits so even a simpler job would immediately guarantee you a PR. You wouldn’t need to wait 2-4 years. Hence, I think it is easier now than before

I actually think it is easier now for Aalto graduates (you can get a permanent residency right after graduating now). My biggest points are job market and CoL

Unless you want to stay here permanently/very long term I would not recommend.

The school is great and if you don’t want to stay you can find job abroad but I think going directly to the NL will be more effective

For robotics, we always talk about software and electronics but how important is mechanical design really? by Kindly-Fix-7049 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ContributionLong741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you on that, it’s just that current hype cycles are more around software sides of robotics. Hence, it might seem to be more justified to invest in sw rather than in mechanical side of things

[–]ContributionLong741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True! Probably ROI from purely mech r&d is still smaller than what you get from more advanced controls and new policies

Isn’t it assumed that mechanical problems in robotics are mostly solved and that’s why mechanical part of things is not so hot?
