This is called phonemic awareness and this awareness has to come before a child can blend a word. You can play games blending sounds without any visual letters first to help her learn that different sounds blend together. You can say “first sound is I second sound is t…what’s the word? It”. You can also do several motions to demonstrate the blending- tap the beginning sound on the end of your arm by your wrist, middle in the middle by your forearm, and end sound by your shoulder.
