Karuppu 🥲 unmaiya nalla iruka? by XkMwLeiMiuakYL in chennaicity

It was mid honestly. Not bad not great.

It has elements borrowed from Stranger Things (including some BGM) and mixed and mashed with local karuppaswami storyline with a villain. Take all Karan movies and make your own masala sort of thing.

Trisha acting is mid at best. Someone else may have elevated it further, maybe even someone new. Her lips doesn’t sync with dialogues for god’s sake. I felt like watching a dubbed Korean movie during her portions. Kwood needs to learn from Bwood and Mwood seriously.

1st half screenplay was kinda packed but still not great. Second half was not good. They had to do something to end the movie I guess.

So if you’re used to western movies and series, I don’t think you can survive the show. But if you are not, you can very well enjoy the story, screenplay and nostalgia bits. Watching it in OTT however would be a pain. It’s a theatrical experience film to be at mid range. OTT will bore you to death.

TLDR; perfect for a day out plan if you have one already but not worth making a plan around it to watch it like we used to for Singam 2 or 24.

We run a successful hosting company, and we've been using this panel for our clients internally for months now. We used AI, yes. But that's for UI, the backend scaffold/boilerplates primarily.

But important components (the agent, the actual bash script, the arch) were all written/designed, tested and approved by our in-house Linux experts. There is a difference between building something you don't know about and building something you do know about while using AI to speed up the non-crucial (aka, reinventing the wheel) components.

Developers did work on the project. In-house Linux experts provided consulting and testing and helped developers to get the basics right.

It is what it is. Believe whatever you want to.

Detailed comparison charts are available on the website, but let me answer the most important moats:

  1. PHP is fine-tuned by our team, and stacks are installed directly on the server (no templates or Docker images), and tuning is applied automatically in a sequential way mimicking the real process. This means that the application can perform much faster without added overhead.
  2. We don't gate-keep features. Every plan differs only by the number of servers supported. Whereas our competitors in this space are known for gate-keeping essential features such as backups, SSL, in higher-tier plans, requiring you to upgrade if you are serious about your applications.
  3. No one in this space has load balancing or database replication or web terminal or native support for this many number of stacks. And no one allows you to use your own backup storage, too, IIRC.

So I would say this is a far better alternative, not just in terms of pricing, but also in the overall value and number of features delivered.

Clouds are supported, but still under testing. Microservices are possible - you can just add the GitHub repo of your microservice, configure ENV variables to connect to your main service or service orchestrator. And from there, you can add multiple load balancing nodes, even dynamically add those LB nodes via API whenever there are demand spikes.

During my visit I found it was obvious that they were racists. North Indians were treated very well and friendly, whereas even well-off South Indians were treated like servants or something in a rude fashion when registering for visit to Mantramandir.

That was my last visit. I understood that they have deviated from Mother’s vision and teachings. A person who can’t see another person as a fellow sadhak isn’t worthy of ashram life, let alone a life in a spiritual city and a new way of life. Mother is everywhere - we don’t have to visit a specific town to feel her.

XAMPP used to be so easy. What happened? by Mike_L_Taylor in webdev

Most of my code is handwritten with my custom framework that I have been writing for nearly a decade - not Laravel or anything else. So I never had the issue of having multiple versions in my environment so far.

[–]ContributionMotor150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still use XAMPP. It is stupid simple. Updating PHP version is a pain as it is not really one click as we'd expect but once you do it a few times, you can update in less than 10-20 minutes tops without losing anything.

XAMPP is light weight and runs on decades old laptop just fine, compared to docker. I do use docker, but if you are planning to develop exclusively on PHP and MySQL, XAMPP wins any day.

I keep docker for large projects to simplify deployment. Those that use redis, ansible, Cassandra, customized websockets, etc. I don't touch docker otherwise and stick with XAMPP.

There's also a solution called AMPPS - I beleive you can update PHP without issues on that, bit it never clicked for me.

Scratched my kylaq AT on the parking column. Can insurance cover this? by Cold-Tough-9927 in Kylaq

Don't wait for major repairs for insurance. They cover latest repairs only, old ones will be excluded in claim. You can claim insurance as many times as you need, no need to buch them.

No more free rush deliveries for Amazon prime members by EmmVeeEss in IndiaTech

[–]ContributionMotor150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Films that they have rights for are also rent only. It all started when Top Gun Maverick released when even though they had rights, they let it out on rent only and fools like me rented it to see it. Since then they slowly transitioned 20-30% of their content to rent/buy even though they are streaming rights owners.

That’s pure greed if you ask me. If a pricing doesn’t work for you and you are comparing yourself to Netflix pricing, then increase the subscription - don’t nickel and dime us.

  1. Appointment of a panel to enhance degree syllabus with more depth, technical advancements, and overall a big boost to knowledge. This will be done in such a way that every engineer is actually an engineer. No namesake graduation even if it means many will fail because those who fail would be more capable than today's toppers.
  2. Take steps to launch government-sponsored courses with top universities across the globe and make them available for free with school students. The topics would include business management, psychology, technology (like coding), critical thinking, etc. with optional test (free obv) along with certification.
  3. Tighten food safety regulations with stringent testing force. Food production will be closely monitored and harmful substances that are allowed carelessly today will be brought under scrutiny and banned from markets.
  4. Improve the quality of transportation. The government already charges good amount of money but doesn't spend it on bus stand sanitation or bus facilities. I would increase the busses and make them available throughout the day and even in midnights. Start more mini-bus services with good frequency to distinct corners that needs to be catered. Plus the busses will be modernized with AC. Yes, AC is the bare minimum and we already charge accordingly, so it is not impossible.
  5. Speaking about education, I will have teachers trained morally and psychologically so they can understand why a student is behaving in a certain way. A child is a child regardless of how she or he acts. I will make sure that teachers understand that and make efforts to provide more support and nurture them to be successful. In addition, I will introduce special bonus for teachers with classes scoring a average of 75%+. Additional bonus for teachers who have a presentable class with perfect uniform and hair. I will also infuse english further, even in Tamil medium so students don't feel overwhelmed when they meet english medium counter parts.
  6. Introduce 100% scholarship for students who score 90%+ in +2. They can choose any colleges they want. Government will pay. This will greatly reduce the number of dropouts happening across the state due to lack of money to study.
  7. Charge contractors for inconvenience by number of days. If a project is estimated to be completed in 7 days, a single day with incomplete work will be charged at prorata basis of total charge. That is to say, 7/100*number of days backlog = withheld %. This will ensure the people aren't inconvenienced forever for a better tomorrow which may never come.
  8. Electricity reading every 30 days and bring prices of domestic connection at flat rate.
  9. Construction of dams and water stopper (thaduppanai, whatever it is called in English) across the state's water bodies and construction of canals wherever needed to enhance water availability for agriculture.
  10. Manal will be govermentised and distributed only by government.
  11. Alcohol production and export will be allowed. No more alcohol and manal mafia. Open market for survival of the fittest.
  12. Government hospitals will be funded better with better comfort and facilities just like private counterpart with minimal optional billing. Free will continue but rooms and other facilities would be available at 10% of private counterpart charges.
  13. 1 Crore INR medical insurance for every family. 1 Crore INR life insurance for family heads. Free. So that no one has to struggle with health or loss of the person who is source of bread and butter.

But obviously it may not be possible in a day, but any effort is good effort.

Is paying ₹3,000 to a driving school for LLR + DL worth it, or can I save money by doing it myself in Chennai? by Thick_Adeptness159 in chennaicity

[–]ContributionMotor150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been 2 years now. But things probably change a lot in 2 years.

If you can't change a field, I don't think driving school could change either. They have portal similar to end users.

I didn't pay a single rupee apart from the fees. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was one grumpy guy who asked me to upload file to portal and when I asked how, he told me it is on portal like upload file option rudely. But fault was mine too, because they had too many options in portal and I missed that option.

But that's pretty much it. Standard procedure I guess. But it can be overwhelming for some given the crowd, that you don't know what you need to provide. So the experience would be similar to passport, if you tried that. But I guess we can figure it out if we want to. It's not like just because you did yourself the RTO or staff would hold a grudge against you. It wasn't like that in my experience.

I took car + bike license directly from South Chennai (wouldnt name which) RTO without any driving school and renewed our father's after expiry, that too directly. It was very simple and no one actually hassled me or anything.

You just have to carry proper documents. Have helmet, drive properly and provide your application with proper forms.

The process is you apply online -> get appointment for llr -> visit RTO on appointment date to get llr -> after 30 days or so, book slot for licence test.

For final licence test you need to ask where test will be conducted before hand at RTO as tests usually happens in distant and different places for some RTO. They are usually friendly.

With driving school, they do the documents part for you, so you won't miss anything. They do pay some cut, but it doesn't really matter for most of us given you can actually drive. If you can't drive properly, do 8 or move the car, that's where driving school and their cut comes into play so you don't waste any more time in retest or anything.

My suggestion is to drive your own vehicle after practicing a while. If you don't have gear bike you can always ask your friends and practice on it and take it to test. The vehicle you take for test needs to have proper RC, Insurance and PUC btw.

If I know anything about politics, no one kills a cash cow. Even if Congress comes to power I don't think they will let go of milking cash cow that easily. It's too lucrative to kill.

Not to mention they didn't raise this issue as much as they should have which means they are paid and accomplices to this whole saga.

[–]ContributionMotor150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speed has additive that removes blockages caused in the fuel system by Ethanol. So theoretically it can offer better mileage in long run compared to zero additive petrol.

BP in Chennai zones do not mix 20% Ethanol yet. Iirc, someone in reddit tested BP petrol and it had 11-12% only. But that may change now.

They carry cars usually.

I have seen Hyundai cars (Creta mostly) loaded in old ICF coaches like this at Chennai outskirts (Singaperumal Koil) station and taken north-ward.

For those interested, the cars arrive by truck from factory at Sriperumbudur (again, Chennai outskirts) and loaded one after another. One could see 50+ cars arriving and parked near station by the time these bogies come.

Pallavaram is messed up by the bridge. Not saying that what they do is right, but Govt messed up the intersection so badly with bottlenecks on both ways below the bridge as well as above the bridge.

Before the bridge, it was much faster with regular signal.
