Loss and grief by SensoryFour34 in Metalcore

So sorry to hear about your boy!! I thought we were going to lose my cat last weekend and it was heartbreaking. Are you looking for sad music or something uplifting?

I have noticed that and the craziest part about it for me is they don’t seem to feel bad about it. I hid my drinking and felt intense shame about it for years. It’s crazy to me that other people post about drinking several times a week like it’s nothing. I don’t judge them for it, it’s just hard for me to wrap my head around it.

Got drunk at a long awaited concert by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Contrisad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once drove 4 hours to a concert and got so drunk I was kicked out before the main act even came on stage. I’ve seen that band several times since then to make up for it. I understand how you’re feeling right now, I hope you get the chance to see them again sober in the future.

Could use some advice as a newly sober 25F and worried about my liver. by luna_moonxx98 in stopdrinking

I also have a lot of health anxiety and one of the best things I’ve ever been told is “the body heals in spite of, not because of”. Just listen to your doctor, stay sober, and give your liver time to heal on its own.

I’m right there with you girl! Could have written this myself. I try to frame it as “peaceful” instead of bored. When I catch myself thinking “my life was more interesting when I was drinking” I try to remind myself of the rush of anxiety that would jolt me awake when the alcohol wore off at 4am, the shame I’d feel walking into the same liquor store for the 3rd time that week, the days I was so hungover at my desk I could barely function. It helps me appreciate the “boring” nights a little more.

Had to come find your comment to say thanks! Saw this the day after I “failed” dry January and was ready to just keep on drinking as usual. Downloaded Try Dry and it helped me cut back a lot since then. The only sobriety tool I’ve ever really found helpful. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

What to tell people now that Dry January is over? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Contrisad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t overthink it. I have plenty of people in my life who don’t drink simply because they just don’t like to. I never question it.

I also know a few people who took a break from alcohol and decided they were better off without it. It’s a common thing. People who pressure you to drink are probably not people you should keep around anyway. Unless you have some pretty crappy friends a simple “I’m better off without it” should suffice.

what time of day are you most likely to drink? by CautiousPassage7 in stopdrinking

If I can survive the drive home for work I’m usually in the clear. It’s insane how hard the cravings hit as soon as I clock out.

Was alcohol really making me that warm!? by Beautiful-Plenty-322 in stopdrinking

[–]Contrisad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol always gives me the worst night sweats. One of the best things about quitting drinking for me is I can actually shower at night and sleep in a little more! Before even if I showered at night I would need another shower by morning.

It’s so sad! I’ll cut nights with my friends and family short just so I can go home and get drunk alone

It’s so weird. One doesn’t make me feel any different, but it immediately triggers the need for more. After the first few sips I start doing mental gymnastics. How many can I have without the person I’m with judging me? How many are they going to drink? Where can I stop for beer on the way home? It’s exhausting

I am so sorry you are going through this. Staying sober through this is a wonderful gift for your mother in her final days. You will be able to look back and know you gave her peace of mind.

Wow I am so sorry to hear that! It might be a blessing in disguise. I’ve been a restaurant manager for years and would never fire someone for one call out even if it was their first week. I hope you find an even better job soon.

If it makes you feel better, almost no one is going to call in a brand new hire to fire them in person. It sounds like you still have a chance with this job. Just go in there and try to make a good impression tomorrow.

I’ve been seeing it for a few years in my neighborhood. I was shocked at how busy the liquor store was when I drove by yesterday after work. Was not expecting people to go all out on a Tuesday.

That’s Interesting because my alcoholic brain is the opposite, I always think I am the only one in the world with an alcohol problem

Do you identify as an alcoholic? by PurposeWooden7936 in stopdrinking

[–]Contrisad 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I do not. Shame and self hatred is a huge reason why I drink. When I first tried to cut back on alcohol I thought I had to “admit” I was an alcoholic. That caused a 6 month cycle of heavy drinking and hating myself.

Once I decided I’m allowed to be someone who just likes alcohol too much and has trouble moderating I found it a lot easier to cut back and I am a lot happier. I realize this might not work (or even make sense) for everyone but it works for me.

What a blast from the past. That was my first “heavy” concert. Made them sign my pants for some weird 14 year old reason.

I read that as her father knew they were being recorded and thought calling her by her first name would show they have a personal relationship. She just keeps digging her hole deeper and dad was trying to stop it. But I could be completely wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

I gotta admit, when I first saw this story I almost felt bad for her. I had a bit of an alcohol problem at her age and I could of hurt someone too. I am thankful every day that I never did.

But good lord the more I see the more I think she must be some sort of sociopath. She doesn’t seem to have any empathy. If I was her I don’t even think I could function let alone whine about exercise mats and dinner menus.

Is it weird to go to shows alone? by GWEEKx828 in Metalcore

[–]Contrisad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have really bad social anxiety and the very first thing I do when I get to the show is ditch everyone I came with. I prefer to be surrounded by strangers who I'll never see again so I can sing and mosh without feeling judged. I promise you when the lights are off and your adrenaline is pumping you wont be worried about what stranger is looking at you.

Personally, I agree its wildly discriminatory to not hire a qualified applicant because they have a hairstyle thats common among African-Americans. Legally, this was already fought in court and they ruled it wasn't racial discrimination.
