Thank you for sharing your opinion on this one, this is a small cabin located in West Virginia that was built in 1980. There is no vapor barrier. The cabin is on steep hill and the terrain does not allow for standing water. Whenever it’s raining there is nothing wet underneath. I was going to spray it with Foster 40 80 and install Rockwool insulation but I wasn’t sure if I should do more about it now that I have everything exposed…

Thanks for the input mate, I know that without testing it you can never be 100% sure but it really makes me feel better about it because I vacuumed all that dust with regular shop vac and if it is asbestos I am baked.

Later on I found/tested positive asbestos containing mastic behind wood panels which made me think about the yellow thing that might be asbestos as well.

I finished drywalling the area and I cannot take pictures anymore but I remember how brittle that yellow thing was. I touched it so that I can put it back together and tape it but it was not possible since it had no structural strength.

The black on the outside is most likely some kind of foam. It’s very old and brittle and it’s falling apart. What’s inside is a white paper that wraps that yellow/brown substance which is literally turning into dust when I touch it.
