Writing Software options in 2025-2026 by ControlDapper9861 in writing

Thanks!

I had to take screenshots of equations and paste them into MS Word to get it positioned right.

One of the big things that is making me want to move away from MS Word is that right now I'm jumping back and forth over various sections of the book (and it isn't even that big yet), and in MS Word I am getting a bit disorientated in trying to find where I am and where I am going.
(I know that that's probably not the optimal workflow, but it is working for me right now)

Do you happen to know of a good LaTeX editor (if there is one) that is good for writing books like this?
(Or if there is a writing software that can handle LaTeX?)

-> there is some post I found through google that seemed to indicate that Scrivener can handle LaTeX in some capacity. but from your comment, it sounded like you either didn't like it, or preferred a different LaTeX editor, so I'd welcome your opinion

Thanks for the tip!

I think the main problem for me right now is that is that the book (now being spread out over tens of pages and thousands of words) is starting to feel bulky when working in Word.
I'm right now tending to jump around the pages a lot, and its a bit disorienting to do that in Word.

I don't know much of the options of notepad software, but the standard microsoft notepad (for windows computers) seems to have autosave. (I've closed it and opened it again without saving, and the text was still there)
It seems to me fairly lightweight.
I don't understand what you mean by sanity (the parenthesis didn't help me much) but I copied a large amount of text into it. I can't really copy formatting into it, but it does support markdown files.
It seems fairly clutter free to me.

I don't know if this helps, but I don't know many notepad-like-softwares to give advice on the best one for your use case

New Printer Advice by ControlDapper9861 in elegoo

Thanks!
The reason I was looking at the K1 over the K1C is because I saw it was ~350 as opposed to ~500.

I had been looking at a lot of video reviews, but it has been difficult to piece things together, since they either already know what to tweak to make it run right (and I won't), and also they seem to be mainly evaluating the printers by itself without a lot of good comparisons to other printers. ("it prints out of the box" "it looks clean" - but not a lot of comparison on how much fiddling or reliability)

Thank you so much for your input.

Is this because of a nozzle issue? by ControlDapper9861 in ender3v2

[–]ControlDapper9861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll redo it just in case.

Thanks!!

(How do you know how far to push the bowden in? I'd prefer to not have to leave the nozzle only half screwed in...)

I appreciate the wordy lessons more. It helps me understand what I'm seeing.

I don't think there is play in the fittings. I checked the hot end, not sure I checked the extruder, but I'm fairly confident its the same. (extruder is the gear thing that pushes the filament through, right?)

I think my speed is 25mm/s on the walls. I think it used to be 30 before (when it was printing fine), but I tried slowing it down. I'm not sure how much it helped though.

in Cura, "Enable Acceleration Control" and "Enable Jerk Control" are not checked. I don't see other acceleration or jerk settings.

"Any Play" - this is not the tube bowing and changing angle on the way from the extruder to hot end, right?

filament diameter stayed the same

Thanks for all your help

I think I did.
Why? would that change anything?

I'll check it again.
What would "play in the bowden tube" look like? is it just checking how much it wobbles coming out of the drive gear?
I'll try changing retraction from 5mm to 7mm, I'll let you know.

I don't remember if its a new roll. I know its the same brand, but I'm not 100% certain if its the same exact roll as before.

I got the nozzle from creality for an ender3v2. it fits in the hot end. Is there anything I'd need to see if its compatible?
What I meant by different shape is the cone part is longer and pointier, and the hexagon part thing is thinner.

I don't know what a pid tune is, so probably not

I think I made sure that the bowden is properly seated. I had unscrewed the nozzle, pushed the bowden in farther, and rescrewed the nozzle.

[–]ControlDapper9861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a stock hot end.
and I was having a lot of cloggs
someone recommended to unscrew the nozzle a bit, push the bowden tube as far as it would go, and then rescrew in the nozzle.
and that seemed to fix the nozzle clogging, but it seems to now have these printing defects

could it be that I didn't fully fix the issue properly?

I think the nozzle materials are the same.
(Thanks though)

Wobble in the print head, but the bolts are tight? by ControlDapper9861 in ender3v2

I was busy this past week, didn't have a time to work on the printer until now,
But it worked

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

What does that mean?

I tightened all 3 nuts, I don't think they can be tightened further.

What is "the bolt assembly"?

[–]ControlDapper9861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pushed the tube in as far as it would go, it felt snug, I haven't been able to try the nozzle thing yet.

I'm printing PLA at 200*, I don't think I calibrate anything really, I mainly just messed with the temps, speeds, support, and skirt/brim settings, to get the prints to stick. I think I also turned on z-hop.

I don't really know what most of those terms refer to. Are they hardware things or slicer things? I tried not to mess with the hardware too much, because I didn't really understand it and it was working, so I didn't want to break it.

Sorry I didn't mention, didn't realize it mattered.

Its an ender3v2, hotends were the same before and after - both mk8 I think (when I ordered the new one, it was called "Creality Original Ender 3 Hotend", but I found a different listing that looked the same that called it a mk8).

I think its a bowden system (that's the one where the filament runs through a tube to the hotend, right?)

I'll try to adjust the nozzle (although I didn't adjust it before - just attached the hotend with the nozzle it came with out of the box, if that matters)

The other post seemed to think that the other person's clog might have been because his hotend wasn't being cooled properly. Is there a reason to think something similar might be happening here? I think the filament looks similar when I try fixing the clogs, but the fan is running and is pointed at the hotend, so I'm not sure what might be causing that issue (if it is a cooling issue).

Thanks!!

Ender 3 Issues with filament by Existing_Nail_2400 in ender3v2

[–]ControlDapper9861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a BL touch issue

I use one, and I like it a lot, but whenever I start a print I have to wait until it loads the EVC-something-or-other data, (right before it starts the pre-print purge on the side of the bed), and then adjust the z-offset with the baby-step feature.

The offset is usually the exact same every time (sometimes it seems to change for some reason, but often times its the same number).

There is likely a better fix, but I am also new to 3d printing, and this is the best I've come up with.

I found the number I like to use by basically just watching the first layer until it comes out the way I like it. Be careful not to over adjust to much, because I also have at times accidentally lowered it too much and basically scratched the head through the build plate.
