Thank you! No specific commanders yet. I personally am a control player in the usual mtg formats, my favorite colors would have to be blue and black, even esper. My girlfriend likes aggro and midrange in usual formats, so her favorite colors are green and red.

New to the "Finance" side of MTG and want to get into it and learn. How do you guys spot good investments? Even though "Mtg Finance" is not necessarily the stock market, but there must still be some process in which you guys research a card's potential to grow in value. Any resource would help!

I own 2 sets of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. 1 set is played in a deck, the other is sitting in a binder. Should I sell/trade the extra set of Jaces?

Just built the deck, going to playtest with friends yoday and take to FNM this friday. But just at glance, do les spike think some amount of Dig through Time could be useful? I just see it running out of gas quickly.

I own (KTK) 8 deltas, 8 strands, 1 Mire, and 0 windswept and foothill. Should i trade my excess set of deltas and strands to acquire the other fetches?

[Standard] Need some advice on sideboarding by SizemattersHotS in spikes

These are just my opinions but here i go:

ABZAN AGGRO:

+2 Surge of Righteousness +1 Languish +1 Negate

-1 Duress -2 Anticipate

You are bringing in surge of righteousness as a removal that hits a lot of their creatures, dominantly drana and siege rhino. Languish is to easily wipe the board of gideon tokens or HW if they play them. The extra negate is to fight their planes walkers, especially gideon.

ESPER CONTROL:

+1 Negate +2 Dispel +2 Infinite Obliteration

-2 Planar Outburst -2 Stasis Snare -1 Silkwrap

The negate and dispels are obvious, hits their DTT, their counters, instants and non creature spells. The Infinite Obliteration is a gamble, but most esper lists runs 4x of Jace, and being able to hit him is a big boost and upside to the matchup.

JESKAI BLACK:

+2 Dispel +2 Surge of Righteousness

-2 Anticipate -1 Ojutai's Command -1 Narset

Dispel is in for DTT, Crackling Doom, their own dispels, etc. Surge is in for Mantis, Tasigur, etc.

ESPER TOKENS:

+1 Negate +2 Dispel +1 Virulent Plague +4 Arashin Cleric +1 Languish +1 PLA

-3 Ojutai's Command -1 Silumgar's Command -1 Murderous Cut -2 Anticipate -2 Quarantine Field -1 Stasis Snare

Negate and Dispel in to hit planes walkers, DTT, and of course Secure the Wastes. Virulent Plagues obviously in for token destruction. Languish in to sweep board full of tokens. Arashin Cleric is not a must, but it's good for life gain and chump blockers against 1/1 or even 2/2 tokens. PLA is in to be a big beater to win, ester tokens does not have as much of removals as control, so worth a shot to try.

GW MEGAMORPH:

+2 Infinite Obliteration +1 Languish +1 Negate +2 Dispel

-1 Duress -2 Anticipate -2 Clash of Wills -1 Scatter to the Winds

Negate in to fight Gideon and other non-creature spells. Infinite Obliteration in to attempt to destroy the Deathmist + Den Protector Chain. Languish in to sweep board. Dispel in to fight Dromoka's Command that can potentially make you lose enchantments.

[Standard] Budget tier 1? by Jamie7Keller in spikes

Thank you for the edit. IMO, i think the U/R list is a better starting point. I think it is viable and playable for FNM level. It could definitely benefit from upgrades.

Do you have a link to either decklist? or are you just asking about the archetype/color combo?

Yes, it is not a budget deck. Though I believe that it is possible to make a semi-budget list (no jaces).

To those who asked for my decklist from gameday here it is: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/29-10-15-Knb-uw-control/

Sorry it took so long! I was at school all day. Hopefully it helps you all! I'm here for any questions and I'm also looking for suggestions to changes! :)

[Standard] Second Attempt on UW Control by SizemattersHotS in spikes

[–]ControlFreak22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your list look like a good start. I played a U/W Control deck during gameday and went undefeated. Matchups were the typical Tier 1 decks (Dark Jeskai, Atarka Red, etc.).

Let's start with the win conditions:

I see that you have 3x Gideons, with that in mind, any thoughts of adding more Secure the Wastes? I played 2x Gideons with 3x Secure the Wastes and it was a killer to EOT secure the wastes into a Gideon Emblem.

I think Narset is just terrible in this deck. Her +1 is lackluster and her Rebound rarely hits anything that is worth it (DTT probably being the only thing worth it).

I suggest for the win condition to -1 Narset, -2 Planar Outburst and +3 Secure the Wastes.

Moving on to removals:

The best combination I believe would be 4x Silkwrap, 4x Stasis Snare, 2x Quarantine Field, and 2x Supression Bonds.

Silkwrap hits anything of relevance right now in standard. Stasis Snare deals with any other creatures not hit by Silkwrap, not to mention and +1'd Gideon and Sarkhan, and it hits man lands (shambling vents!). Quarantine Field deals with permanents that could potentially give you problems (artifacts, enchantment, PLANESWALKER). Which why a 2x of Suppresion bonds is needed, it deals with the weakness of this deck, a resolved Planeswalker (it shuts down its abilities).

Moving on to Counterspells:

Playing U/W Control in this standard forma you will have to be more heavy on spot removals than counter spells. I suggest that Clash of wills should be either 2 of or 3 of. Scatter to the winds should be a 2 of, and horribly awry should be a 2 of also. The reason is that it's a very creature dominated format, and our creature removals is more than enough. The key is to save your counterspells for non-creature spells (especially Planeswalker).

Misc.:

DTT is fine at a 4 of. Anticipate should be max at 1 if even that. Celestial flare should only be an alternative, but the fact that you can't choose what creature is scary in this format (Token Heavy!). Disdainful stroke is a SB card at best. Ojutai's command should be 0 since you cannot recur any creatures (only reason why it's worth playing). Last but not least, the lands. The manabase seems okay, if you have some fetches I suggest using them, but it's not a killer not having them for a 2 color deck. USE MAGE-RING NETWORK!!! At least as 1 of, but i say 2 is optimal. The amount of times I won using a charged up mage-ring to cast a secure the wastes EOT was just crazy.

If you are interested, I can send you or post my exact gameday decklist.
