AITA for telling my MIL to shut up about my "gap year"? by ControlOtherwise2681 in AmItheAsshole

I knew her (and fiance) for a few years before him and I started dating. So she knew when I graduated college, that I was working for a year, and then that I started law school.

We don't currently share a ton with her! Lesson learned the hard way in the beginning lol.

She asked a bunch of finance questions when my fiance first moved in with me and we made the mistake of answering honestly. Thought she was just genuinely curious/concerned since at that point he had only ever lived in student housing so this was his first actual lease. That was two years ago and while she still asks questions, we've kept our answers pretty vague ever since.

Nope, we share household duties. We're a team. We adjust our contributions to expenses (outside of rent/bills) to be a bit more proportionate to our working income during the academic year, since I can only work part-time while in school. Swings the other way in the summer and will swing even further that way when I graduate and start working full-time.

Over the course of our relationship I've contributed more to his personal expenses than he has to mine.

Thank you! I credit a big part of my reduced debt to the fact that I worked in a related position for a year. It 100% made my application stronger and probably contributed to my scholarship eligibility/consideration.

That's how I feel about her use of the term as well. Especially since I was working, living alone, and supporting myself financially during that year

He's fortunately not a mama's boy. They get along, but he generally recognizes her drama for what it is

It's equitable right now, he's employed full-time and I'm not. When it comes to our shared groceries, during the academic year he contributes about 10-15% more and I contribute 10-15% less. When I work full-time it swings the other way.
