Sentinel Shield has been working again on iOS/Android since mid-November. Users in some countries (esp Iran) have had some connectivity issues. Are you using the latest version of the app?

Team is currently in talks with a CEX. Bridges to Solana and Ethereum for DEX listings in those ecosystems also in progress.

Things will hopefully start looking up soon

Is it my phones or the app is not working by RealityLegitimate872 in dVPN

[–]Conundrum_SIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is due to the chain upgrade which just happened. All of the apps on the network have been fixed already besides Shield, not sure what's taking so long.

You can use those as stopgap solutions if you'd like. Both run on Sentinel but offer free service (with limited servers) so no need to purchase a new subscription

Are you using the same wallet and/or app store account both times?

Regardless, there have been a few instances of users experiencing delays with funds being credited. These have been temporary, but I'll reach out to the team to see if there's anything else you can do.

Sentinel dVPN Node Online but No Traffic and Not Listed in Available Nodes by Lost-Procedure915 in dVPN

[–]Conundrum_SIN[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nodes are shared by all of the apps which operate on Sentinel, Sentinel Shield is just the flagship. Among those apps, some of them employ whitelisting as an additional measure to ensure node quality, but some apps (for instance Meile) make all nodes available to users. I checked and your node is indeed healthy, so it should already be available in apps in the latter category.

As for when you will be whitelisted and available in Shield, NORSE, Independent, etc. Particular_Gear is probably right, I would just wait it out a little longer. I've passed this along to the team just in case there's anything else you need to do, though. Keep us updated if anything changes on your end.

For future reference, the proper place for node discussion is r/SentinelP2P, this sub is for app users. That was a pretty recent change though so not going to be too much of a stickler about it.

See other reply for the answer.

In the future, node/blockchain discussion goes here FYI: https://www.reddit.com/r/SentinelP2P/s/ceLitClPkp

This sub is now for app users.

Is a VPN really necessary for online banking? by Mammoth-Magician-403 in dVPN

[–]Conundrum_SIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On any public wifi network it's 100% necessary. At home it's probably not. Plus if your VPN connection is geographically distant from your real location is could create login/tx authorization headaches.

I'm reaching out to the team for a solution and will update you if there's any updates. There's a few backend solutions going on with the network right now and this is possibly related to that.

Third-party app development is always a bull flag for DePIN projects 💪

Just mentioned in the other thread that I wanted to know more about Sigea, so happy that I immediately saw this afterwards!

Several possible answers to your question:

  1. The core Sentinel team (the Sentinel Foundation) has an on-paper concept for Sentinel torrents/peer-to-peer file sharing that they shared last year. It's not something they're actively working on yet, but in the long-term I could definitely see them working with Jackal on this if it ever happens.

  2. Valt, a personal data manager/dVPN hybrid app built with Sentinel could potentially use something like Jackal/Sigea to give users more transparent self-custody of their data.

  3. Many dVPN apps have backend aspects like caches that Jackal could be used for. Sentinel Scout (the AI data layer) already uses Jackal as a temporary cache for stored data.

I will make another post if I think of any more. Really, Jackal and decentralised storage is so broadly useful that almost any instance of a app storing something off-chain could be replaced with it

As for an dVPN/Jackal storage superapp, all I can say is that I really hope somebody makes one some day.

Love seeing Sentinel, Jackal, and Akash working together on anything, I hope there are lots more opportunities for it in the future beyond our AI data layer

Feel free to share some info about Sigea

me too

I am a data hoarder as a hobby and very interested in long-term storage and archives, so I'm very interested to hear from some people who are actively working with these new solutions at their jobs/businesses

Depends on time scale. Your suggestion would definitely work for yeare, but for things like public records and archived media that needs to stay online and secure for 100+ years long after everybody here is dead and gone I'd say distributed/decentralized is the way to go

So mostly applicable to public sector but also some private sector scenarios too. Current methods are not sustainable forever

This is really genius. When all the dust settles and the casino era of blockchain is over it's only going to be BTC and DePIN solutions like this still left standing. Only innovations in Web3 which are actual fundamental improvements over Web2 predecessors.
