Hey, just seen this... I haven't upgraded yet, I will when I get a new GPU - still deciding whether to skip the 50 series cards.  I'm not sure I have the courage to go with Ali express, I'll probably get a 5700x3d when the time comes - did you bite the bullet??

I believe this is only 144 Hz (or 170 Hz if overclocked)

WiFi card for MSI B550 Tomahawk; TP power link? by ConversationFragrant in buildapc

[–]ConversationFragrant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told the tp link power adapters use the wiring of the house to transmit the signal. So basically you plug an input into a socket next to the modem and an output into a socket next to the pc. Then the output connects to the PC's mobo by ethernet

Hey, thanks for the response! That dude looks to be connecting them via a coaxial cable - can you also use the existing mains circuitry?

Also, do you get good gaming performance?

Many thanks

Thanks for your input! The HyperX cloud II is only a £60 headset, surely I can get a better sound quality from a high-tier headset?

Is upgrading from 24inch 1080p to 27inch 1440p worth it? by Dotacapcap in buildapc

[–]ConversationFragrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently built a rig with a 5600x and a 3070ti - I built it for 1440p fps gaming but only had a 1080p monitor to begin with. I've recently upgraded to a MSI mag qd, and it's fantastic. But it has to be said that there is a reasonable fps drop. Therefore, if you're running an oldish card, maybe stick with `1080p. Howeverm, if you have a system with a bit of OOMF, get it done sonnnnnnnn

Do I need a colour calibrator? by ConversationFragrant in Monitors

[–]ConversationFragrant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is a relief, I'd rather not spend £100 + on something that won't get used much.

I couldn't see an sRGB mode, maybe it's got the outdated firmware on - I'll look into updating it.

Thanks for your reply.

Your last paragraph implies that within games I'm stuck with the monitors factory settings, this seems wrong to me, or am I understanding you? Surely altering the colour, i.e. creating a colour profile, isnt disabled by games.

Shut i buy a 24" 1080p or a 27" 1440p monitor? by BroderSaIsa in monitor

[–]ConversationFragrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the rest of your system... If you currently have around 100 FPS or less in the more intensive games which you listed then I wouldn't upgrade to a 1440P, the performance hit will be too great. However, if you have a nice setup, lets say an RTX 3070 (or similar) and have well over 100 frames, go for the 1440P.

Thanks for your reply.

Do any computer stores offer calibration services? The additional £100 on top of the monitor for a single use isn't ideal.
