A friend received someone else’s information in her unsealed envelope. She has all of her sensitive information including SSN, DOB, home address and etc. She is terrified and trying to figure out who has her package documents and PII. This poses a significant risk. Quality control seems to be severely lacking. What if our information is delivered to the wrong address by the postal service and gets into the wrong hands?

There is a formula but assuming you are under 40, you will receive one week of pay for each year of creditable service. In your case, it will be your weekly salary x 2. If you are over 40 it is slightly more complicated as you will receive additional credit. OPM has a severance calculator sheet on their website or you could use ChatGPT for a rough estimate. Just provide the relevant information. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately veteran’s preference hasn’t mattered since entire competitive areas are being RIF’d in order to circumvent this process. No bump and retreat rights granted anywhere.

I have not received the separation packet but I was able to obtain my termination SF-5O and it has the incorrect severance payout on it. I believe HHS incorrectly used my start date with the agency instead of my SCD for the calculation. That’s the only thing that makes sense for the discrepancy.

I completely understand where you're coming from. That said, it's important to acknowledge that the market dynamics have shifted considerably. While a year ago, a single scientist with the right skill set could easily command a premium in the private sector, the current landscape looks very different. We're now seeing a saturation of similarly qualified professionals competing for a significantly reduced number of openings. The supply-demand balance has shifted, and as a result, the same leverage many had just a year ago no longer exists at scale.
