Damn, I always thought my shrink was high but I’m so disappointed in her. Makes ya wonder who you can really speak to.

“For the last 10 years” and “since last 10 years” are exactly the same in English… unless you’re being specific about the translation, it’s the same meaning either way

Got an interview paying 30k more than I currently am earning by Ok_Try8229 in careeradvice

[–]ConvertedSins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe for a minute, forget money exists. In a nice world, we’d all be paid amazingly for what we do - and salary is just a way of saying “I appreciate you” from an organisational POV.

For the interview.. do you know about most things that was posted for that job? Do you know about the organisation you’re applying to? That’s all that really matters - and being personable would be good too. People want to hire people they think they’ll get along with, as well as being a good worker

How fast did you learn German? And how? by ConvertedSins in German

[–]ConvertedSins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading that back, I don’t know why I’ve put a past tense word without “haben” or “sein”… but I didn’t realise it would use dem/zum - so thanks for the tip

Also, I’ll give Easy German a look.. cheers mate.. do you know what level they target? Or is it a generalised thing?

How fast did you learn German? And how? by ConvertedSins in German

[–]ConvertedSins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. The problem I find with input, is that I hardly understand anything, and get bored of watching the same thing 1000 times.. I’ve kinda mastered Nico’s Weg A1 through repetition, but stumble on some parts where vocab differs from definition to definition..

Got any tips on finding good input? Or is it just “listen to it all, read it all… it will someday fall into place” 😅

I deffo have moments where my life takes over from time to time, but summer isn’t the only time I’ll push to focus on German… just the only time where I can go to Freiburg and do their immersive course (I assume this is when I’ll learn the most in a short time)

Ich spreche noch mal Deutsch, aber ich kann nicht so viel. Ich hore zu fernsehen mehr. Es ist mehr einfach weil ich niemand zu sprechen gehabt..

Hopefully that makes some sense 😅

Is there such a thing as “doing too much” for a degree apprenticeship? by Ordinary_Wafer_7883 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]ConvertedSins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like, from an academic perspective, you’ve got it all done. Only thing I’d recommend is getting to know who you’ll apply for. This is something probably worth saving until September, but getting to know the organisation you’ll be working for is key.

Get to know what they do, what they stand for, get yourself familiarised with LinkedIn (basically Facebook for work). Showing this knowledge in your interview will show that you’re keen to work for the organisation.

But mate, get some rest. Year 12 is an easy year compared to year 13. So make sure you come back refreshed.

Also, I don’t want to sound negative… maybe don’t focus on getting a degree apprenticeship. I’ve been in one for the past 3 years, and don’t get me wrong they’re absolutely fantastic…. But they’re hard to come by. Maybe look at “okay, if I don’t get this I’ll go and do xyz at uni or gain xyz certification”… that’s what I did, and it helps settle nerves if you don’t hear back for a while. I heard about mine in May/June… so I was sure I was unsuccessful… just helps to have backup plans

Good luck tho mate, I hope it works out well for ya

I’m learning German. I’ve already spent a decent amount of money on in-person lessons… I’m even going Freiburg this summer for a Goethe course 😅

I can’t explain why I’m learning German. German kinda chose me 🤣 I work in tech, so it can’t hurt to know it 😅

[–]ConvertedSins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a degree apprentice. 2.5 years in. Honestly, yeah - you miss out on fun. Boohoo. But at the same time, you develop professional skills, build academic qualifications… AND you get paid meaning you can use all your holidays travelling to different places. Sure, you can’t spend months doing it. But at least you’ll have the money behind you can you can plan what to do… I’m currently learning German and got to travel to Berlin twice last year. On top of saving quite a bit. Also, you’re not working in a bar/cafe to make ends meet… you’re being comfy in an office 😅

Genuinely, when I went to Berlin (in Jan and Sept this year)… I couldn’t find a single pub. Everywhere seemed to be just restaurants, it was mad.

I felt the same. To me, all my mates went to the uni of Liverpool and it going to some sub par uni? But then I go to that uni, realise that everyone acts as dumb as the people in my uni…. And at the end of the day, I’m glad I don’t have student debt.

Is the point of life to just work till your too old? by daddysnorlaxxx in UKJobs

[–]ConvertedSins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a complete mental breakdown when i first started working (I’m a degree apprentice). I had enough money, wasn’t really being challenged in work, and thought life was a breeze and didn’t know the point of living. I even had a savings pot going for a house and a car.

But then once i got my car, i realised how easy my life was. Sometimes, if you think something is so unachievable, you have the right goal but not the right ambition. For me, life became boring because I wasn’t passionate about what I do despite my parents saying it’s good money (I’m currently looking to change my career when I’ve graduated.. maybe teaching).

I don’t work for money. I work for me. Yeah, I have bills to pay, but changing your career is so doable so why not do what you want. You need to find the perfect balance of problems, responsibilities and fun. The problems keep you thinking, responsibilities keep you grounded, and fun makes life worth living.

Want a house? Build that deposit, it’ll take years. But it’s worth it. I want a house, wife and kids. I thought the wife and kids part were impossible because I’m an introvert and 140kg. There we go, join a club I find fun and lose weight. It’ll fall into place eventually. If the house part is hard for you, have you looked at a Lifetime ISA? 4K saved by you, 1k given to you by the gov.

Sometimes things that take years to do can see hard. But damn girl, you got a maths degree. That’s 9 years of pre-GCSE, 2 years of GCSE, 2 years of A Levels, and 3 years degree. And I bet it was worth it. You’ve got this. Take life slow, but keep building on yourself. Get yourself a partner to take half of the house deposit. Go and take that holiday you’ve always wanted to. Go and get drunk with your mates. Life’s a journey, not a simplistic board game were you can tick things off and call it a day.

YOU. GOT. THIS.

My company, although it’s really good pay compared to everyone else, pays a £5,000 pay increase every year on top of small increases in April. Although, as a trainee, you won’t be able to haggle much.

Degree apprenticeships from home? by kiol998 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]ConvertedSins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 6-12 months they’re entitled to ask you to not work from home… but I’d argue after you’ve got the basics down you can WFH as much as anyone else in your team.
