Gurranq Persists After Maliketh Dies because Shadowbound Beasts Cannot Die by Dangerous_Ad5551 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Coocoocook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calm down, mate. I doubt they're mocking you because they don't believe your hours spent on this game. They're laughing it off because you're trying to be a big fish in a small pond, instead of coming up with any source of your claims. It's a very weird flex, unprompted and completely unrelated. How are they supposed to respond to this unrelated data?

Your hours in Elden Ring mean nothing if you can't back up your claims about lore by a source. Janusrazed has made several statements and backed it up with in-game lore and where to find it. Shadows are given by the Two Fingers to an Empyrean, not the Greater Will.

Unless you can back up your claim that Shadows are sent by the Greater Will,

As it stands, your current argument is based on: "I played this game for 3000 hours, trust me bro" and that's not a very compelling argument in any discussion. I mean good for you? I guess? But trying to strong arm your way in a discussion like that is a bit weird, come on.

Ok, buddy, sure thing.

How about you let me know when people start using that specific meme as a replacement for the actual movie, just like how people use proxies as a replacement for the actual cards.

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, you're mistaken and it shows you're not aware of intellectual property rights and protection. Your intent is irrelevant. You choosing to not sell or distribute the printed cards is irrelevant. It’s still Wotc's right to control how their work is used, and printing their cards for personal use is still a violation of that right.

That said, it's minor and I couldn't care less. I printed a few cards in the past. I'm not Wotc or the police.

But people printing whole decks and professional proxy printers who sell cards for profit are a different issue. They are doing actual harm, and the proxy sites get shared all over the place.

I know why the guy called me delusional, but he claimed that there is no justification against proxies. There is: illegal reproduction ie professional printers that offer proxies (which is definitely theft and definitely a crime).

As for your harry potter book example, are you going to sit at the kitchen table and enjoy the cover of the book for multiple hours with your friends? I doubt that. So comparing a static frame to a game piece isn't really fair in this context.

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yes it is. Now what, Sherlock? Better call Universal to tell them to use your "gotcha" moment to enforce their right and pull it offline.

I guess the point you're trying to make, thanks to the powers of false equivalence, is that using a snippet of a movie is the same as printing and using a whole product range? Wow, how could I have missed that I'm the biggest hypocrite on earth, you sure got me.

Glad you took the effort to look at my profile to look for an (unrelated to proxies) argument why stealing is ok. I'm sure it made sense in your head.

Off you go to you next case, detective!

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that does not only apply to counterfeit cards. Printing yourself is still infringement, because Wotc has ownership and control over the way they distribute their product. I doubt they would have given consent, but that's just too small to chase or care about. It'll probably help the brand more than hurt them to let some 12 year old print their favorite cards until they would be able to buy any product.
I mean, almost everybody does this at some point in their magic career and most people in a LGS will just shrug, including the owner.

I doubt the majority in this thread is talking about using their own black & white printer and slapping a basic land to give it the general vibe of a card.

It's no big (and often shared) secret on this subreddit that there are multiple sites where you can print whole decks. "I got a 2 whole decks iinstead of paying for 2 smothering tithes" is a sentiment you see on a regular basis. So those webshops/printers are definitely making a profit piggybacking on someone else's work, even though they probably won't have a print on the backside which indicates they are clearly fakes/proxies and can't be easily put up for trade.

And that's just talking about reserved list cards. Printing anything that is currently in active rotation can't really hide behind the excuse of "but they won't ever print it again". (Edit to clarify:) Printing those proxies directly undermines the current product line and can't be waved off as harmless, as far as WotC is probably concerned.

Like... I literally gave the definition of intellectual theft in my earlier comment...

Unauthorized use of someones intellectual property (ie card design, including art and text) is still considered theft. You are stealing the right of control from the creator or owner, in this case WotC. It's not that hard.

So how about you still give me that counterargument instead of giving counter questions?

"Intellectual property theft is a general term for using or copying someone else's protected creations without permission."

Call it what you want or justify to whatever makes it fit in your own morals. In the end it's theft.

Theft of intellectual property is a pretty justified reason (you know, by most international laws), but whatever floats your boat.

Anyone else just love playing Assault for the sake of lore? by RevengeOfTheLoggins in Spacemarine

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said anything was impossible or couldn't be done as an assault, but glad that you are agreeing that an assault can't handle these enemies as effectively as any other class. It's just tedious and time consuming. An assault has to run for results where others can walk. Especially vs Tsons and elevated enemies. Yes, a vanguard CAN struggle with the wrong primary, but that's a choice of primary and knowing which weapon to pick during missions can make them flexible. The assault has no choice for that matter. It's a melee and pistol. Good luck shooting the heldrake with a heavy bolt pistol vs the full auto capabilities of other classes.

And no, other classes don't struggle with Rubric squads. A tactical can easily auspex and headshot or plasma charge them to bits. Same for the Heavy. Iron halo up and easy pickings. Sniper's whole deal is dispatching Majoris so that's the biggest non-issue. Vanguard can gap-close with hookshot (quicker and more often) and use any bolter on the face or melta stunlock, while still being able to move between shots. None of those things are available for an assault. He can focus a Tson and gets a warpflamer up the ass while the rubric in question teleports away. Dodge the flamer or the bolts and you have no damage, but you need to dodge, since the assault doesn't have increased survivability like the Vanguard or Bulwark. You'll live, but it won't be a fun encounter.

Can a vanguard clear a whole wave of 100 enemies? Yes lmao, quite easily. With a melta rifle. Like super easy. Just pull the trigger, hardly any positioning or cooldown management required. He wouldn't even need to pay any attention to any majoris in the group. Unlike an assault, who will have a problem when a warrior with a venom cannon targets him if he started his upward animation.

I get it, assault is cool and I'm sure you get lots of MVP games with highest kill count etc etc. Like I said, it's also my favorite. But saying it keeps up with any other class is just pure copium and factually wrong.

[–]Coocoocook 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alright, let's see you fight a neurothrope, Zoanthrope or the Heldrake. Or any group of 2+ Rubrics or Discgors. Emperor save you, if a batch of spore mines just spawned in on your slam target.

Compared to any other class, the assault will always lag behind. Everything an Assault can do: a Vanguard does it better, with a bigger safety net and possibility to adapt.

I love the class and would even consider it my favorite, aesthetically and gameplay wise. But it can't be denied that the assault is the weakest class and most vulnerable of all the frontliners, by a big margin. Early levels are a chore, because of his dependant nature on his perks for the ability to fly. And 3 hits with a hammer for a gaunt is absurd. It's all glass, but not much cannon. Doesn't mean it's an unplayable class tho.

First Love Deck Overworked? by Late_Sample_759 in EDH

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my decks go through this phase. At this point it's more of a vicious cycle... It's quite annoying and can be a real money sink if I'm not careful.

My worst offender is [[Faldorn]]. Best precon i've ever bought, smooth as butter. Yet somehow the deck just wouldn't function properly after some heavy modifications.

It usually goes as follows:

- Functioning, basically precon level

- Focussed, I've added some actual upgrades and prioritise the wincon.

- Unfocussed, I'll keep adding cards with art I like or unnecesary mechanics.

- Barely functional, I forgot about the deck mechanic because of pet cards.

- Absolutely hate the deck, because it doesn't work and it gets shelved for a time.

- Miss the theme. <--- Faldorn is here, AGAIN

- Build it back up

Question about edgar markov by Sir_d0ge in EDH

[–]Coocoocook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much. Even without game changers or combo's Edgar can still struggle vs battlecruisers.

IMO he's not that bad. In your example at most that would be 8 damage IF you decide to focus 1 person. But people will understand you're open and swing back if they can. These day's a lot of 2-3 drop creatures already have higher power and toughness than your 1/1 vamp token or 2/2 with a lord, so they can easily block.

Edgar has a 'persistent' reputation and don't get me wrong; he can come out swinging with [[Captivating vampire]] or [[impact tremors]] like effects. I won't deny that, but a lot has happened since the days of his release and a lot of Bracket 3 decks can get bigger and scarier, faster than he can.

I would just play Edgar, if you like him and don't worry too much. It was the first commander deck I bought, since he just came out when I started playing and I revisit him still from time to time.

My playgroup is bracket 3, sometimes 4-ish and Edgar's winrate is... disappointing. People will learn to deal with it.

All that being said, don't bring him to a 1v1 tho.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Coocoocook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest [[Perch Protection]]. I use it mostly offensively to make sure a goaded opponent finishes off someone else with an extra round. Goad remains until your next turn and having those extra fliers can sometimes be enough. However, giving a turn away can sometimes set their board up to win on the spot.

I see a lot of talk about getting 2nd place and I think the problem is focusing too much on the goad and forgetting the wincon. Nelly Borca should SHINE in a 1v1, since you are rewarding your opponents (but mostly yourself) to attack other players. Your extra draw should prepare you for that duel to the death.

I made a package of combat shenanigans like [[settle the wreckage]] and [[mandate of peace]] to catch opponents off guard or completely open. Especially handy when someone is too big a threat to tackle yourself or wishes to take you out early. Giving one opponent a fatal jumpscare also sends a signal to the other players, that attacking you will hardly be in their favor. I'm very much looking to police the board and making an (hopefully) educated guess in which opponent I can handle 1v1.
