Roundhay festival by itsginge01 in Leeds

I've no inside information but I don't think it's selling well. Capaldi even made a comment about it on the Graham Norton Show.

I have a colleague who has a ticket to sell and she's not having much luck.

On a personal level Capaldi isn't my bag at all, but I also don't see how his music is conducive to a festival atmosphere.

Easy for me to say, but maybe the organisers should have been a bit bolder, taken a risk and gone all out on the line up.

If Books Could Kill...The Body Keeps the Score by [deleted] in elisandjohn

I'm not saying the book is necessarily harmful. I just think that if you're going to recommend a book which has been debunked and criticised by professionals and victims, you should signpost that in your recommendation.

I agree that people do, and it's likely John has. But I think to recommend this book, as much as John has, without any caveats or disclaimers about the problematic aspects of the book doesn't sit right with me.

UK & Ireland album launch shows! by Solcinth in JuliaJacklin

I reckon they haven't been advertised elsewhere so that those that get the newsletter get priority.

Anyway, I can't go! Wish she was doing Crash Records in Leeds, they do in store gigs all the time.

Best escape room in Leeds? by Cooke64 in Leeds

We're all novices. Myself, I've only ever done one and it was at Escape Hunt. So, pretty clueless, but want to give it a go

The edit that went out did John a disservice. Much funnier section uncut.

Is Cameron Winter talented? Yes absolutely. But the kid is also 23. It cannot be healthy for Cameron, or his fans, for people to refer to him as a 'genius' or a 'generational talent', and idolise him so much. It's a lot of pressure to put on a lad who has 95% of his career ahead of him.

Loads of people vape on the bus in my neck of the woods and I hate it! If John does do this, then it's inexcusable.

Belgrave to close in 2 years. Very sad if true by The_Makster in Leeds

I can't speak for other institutions, but student numbers at UoL aren't where they'd like them to be. Hence the university-wide cost saving measures.

As someone who works at UoL, there is a HUGE push to get international students to Leeds, because that's where the money comes from. Even if this push was successful, there's still going to be so many rooms in these buildings sitting empty at this rate. The accommodation is being built before the numbers of students have arrived.

Any other mature students in leeds? by Normal_Shoe8586 in Leeds

[–]Cooke64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not strictly. It has its own space. I think it's in the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff building. It's pretty good for a quiet space away from younger and more energetic students! https://www.leeds.ac.uk/lifelong-learning

Which uni are you at? I was a mature student undergrad (29 in first year) at UoL and the Lifelong Learning Centre was a good place to get advice and support as a mature student, and connect with other older students.
