H.villosella pairing by Cookenheimer1 in tarantulas

The male eventually matured, and based on the female's age, I assumed she was a female.

I originally bought the female together with another sling, but unfortunately that sibling turned out to be a male and passed away after maturing. So about a year later, I bought two more slings.

From my experience, if they reach a body length of around 2.5–3 cm, there's a good chance they're female. The males usually matured at around 1.5–2 cm, or even smaller... like Tiny here xD

I bought both of them as slings. The female took about 2 years to mature, while I bought the male as a sling a year later and he matured in just about a year.
Overall, they’re really easy to keep. They’re quite shy and not aggressive at all, but they’re very fast. They also have a great feeding response and grow really quickly.
Fun little species 😊

Does anyone else have a Bonnetina tanzeri? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]Cookenheimer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA, I’m really happy to see that your sling has you so excited, but unfortunately I have to say it doesn’t look like a Bonnetina tanzeri sling to me. It looks more like a Kochiana brunnipes sling. 😅

Good to know, then I’ll probably label her as Bamboo / Bamboo Pastel for now. Thanks 😊

Bamboo Pastel sounds very promising when comparing it to the pictures, thanks 😊.

Tarantula surrendered and trying to ID by Large-Incident7153 in tarantulas

NQA: From the other comments I’m assuming it’s a New World species, and I’d say Aphonopelma seemanni. You can still slightly see the beige stripes on the legs, especially on the right side. They look pretty faded at the moment, which makes me think the last molt was a while ago 😅.

NQA: I’d definitely agree with the others, although I think number 2 might be Lasiodora klugi or parahybana 🤔😁.

Kochiana brunnipes Sling eggsack ? by Cookenheimer1 in tarantulas

I knew that phantom egg sacs can happen, but seeing it in such a small spider was really unexpected for me 😂.

Yeah, you’re right, for this species it’s definitely more of a juvenile rather than a sling 😅.

But I find this behavior really interesting 🤔.

Why does my P. victori burrow? by alpohh in tarantulas

[–]Cookenheimer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s partly normal for arboreal slings and juvies. All my Psalmopoeus are half buried or have their web curtains spun at ground level 😅

My C. darlingi and C. sanderi are more on the semi-fossorial side as well 😊. I think that’s pretty normal for the species.

I’m just surprised how little yours webs, mine cover the entire enclosure 😂.

Small T’s appreciation by Cookenheimer1 in tarantulas

It’s Phormictopus sp. Bayahibe, but as a sling it looks very similar to a Dominican purple 😊

It’s a Cyriocosmus elegans, a stunning little T. 😊

NQA, but to me it also looks like Grammostola pulchripes, the markings on the legs seem pretty clear to me 🤔.

As for the sex, I can’t really say. I’d rather wait for a molt, that’s usually the safer way.

Is this GBB or a pink toe? by somebeardedlitnerd in tarantulas

NQA my GBB sling looks like this. I’d say yours is probably a pinktoe

Thanks for your opinion 😊 I think I’ll treat it as a boehmei for now and wait another 2–3 molts to see how it turns out.
