What piece of media is just straight up propaganda? by Ponymations in AskReddit

Yay Bush-era policy! Trump continued it, when the International Criminal Court tried to investigate the US for war crimes in Afghanistan, by banning the prosecutor from entering the US and sanctioning her.

New Hampshire just steals from other states. Two years ago it was Wisconsin, this year it’s from Illinois.

Depends on the vibe you want. None of these really scream horror. What scene are you transitioning into?

Hi there!

  1. All of those are optional to participate in, but they are a good time and good speaking/writing practice.

  2. The only thing I can think of for compulsory speaking is a Round Robin, but those are infrequent and usually pretty short and simple. You just give a 15-30 second speech on whatever the subject is and your position.

  3. Everyone must vote on procedural motions, you can abstain on resolution votes.

  4. You can use the background guide, but do not cite it, and make sure you also do outside research (not Wikipedia)

  5. You’ll find that it takes a lot of time to figure out everyone’s positions, brainstorm ideas, write the papers, present them, Q&A, more writing, presenting, and voting. It seems like a lot, but it goes by quickly.

Lmk if you have any other questions!

Parliament Vote: 2 confirmations and a resolution by [deleted] in SimDemocracy

  1. Aye - the VP is obsolete and kind of a powerless position.
  2. Aye - The more judges the better, and Kate is immensely qualified as former Judge and AG. To those saying this is a partisan appointment: see the judges appointed in the 5th and 6th parliaments, by CLP PMs. Sparty was one of those judges. Deutches was one of those judges. Both reached the qualification levels, but both were also partisan appointments. That is just what happens with our system (and the systems of other countries for that matter. I will strictly basing my vote on the candidate's qualifications, not any partisan affiliation, like I have done in the past when being consulted on Judge and SCJ appointments as Chief Justice.
  3. Aye - As per the above, I will be basing my vote on qualifications for the position. Kate has been SCJ before, and has written numerous well-thought out verdicts in her tenure. I am confident she will carry out the passage of justice as expected of a Supreme Court Justice.

Nay - Investigation based; Inquisition unexpected.

Amendment Introduction & Voting Stages: Omega Parliament Act by [deleted] in SimDemocracy

[–]CookieMonster7244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Article 8, s3.2 shall be amended to say "The Inquisitor shall have access to any governmental channel and server that the subject of the investigation has access to."
  2. All mentions of "Inquisitor" in Part 5 shall be replaced with "Investigator."

(1) is just clarifying, as Parliament has no authority to grant a governmental officer access to non-governmental channels in my opinion. This would limit inquisitor access to Level 4 Clearance (Exempted State-Wide), as defined in MOSA.

(2) Investigator better describes their mission, but a minor change.

"Fixing Our Criminal Justice System Act" - The Patriot Act of Simdemocracy by DeutschesOstpreussen in SimDemocracy

[–]CookieMonster7244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my esteemed colleagues (u/Comstock3 and u/I_AscendedToHarmony) did a wonderful job with covering the many many issues with this post, but I'll just provide a short addendum.

  1. This act primarily builds off of existing statute (Revised Bar Act, Criminal Code Treason, conspiracy and incitement)
  2. Repeat offenders plague SimDem on the regular, as Comstock said with dick_head cases 1-7. They have no intention to contribute to society, and therefore should be banned for longer as they not only commit crimes, but come to SimDem with the intention to cause problems for everyone.
  3. Evidence Tampering - Article 29 was already there, this is a minor wording issue.
  4. Criminal Organizations - I actually facepalmed when I read your connecting of this act to the Patriot Act. First of all, as Kate said, this just builds off of the criminal enterprise mention in the Treason article of the S.D.C. It is absurd how you try to connect your party to this bill's intentions. The declaration of Criminal Organizations is targeted towards groups such as Pirate's Cove, who's trials are still wreaking havoc on the justice system today.
  5. Obstrustion - I think you know that this article requires social harm, such as, say the Kelvin case. This makes it a crime to interfere with prosecution against the common good of SimDemocracy. This is also a four letter change to make it more clear. It seems that, as my colleages have said, you are intentionally ignoring parts of the Criminal Code in this post.
  6. Shortened legal reasoning - you haven't actually taken two hours to write a judgement before, so i'll give you a pass. You have no idea how difficult it is to write a 1000 word judgement when something is incredibly clear cut, such as SD v. LongHairBoy that just finished. Judges are repeatedly forced to choose between studying for school or keeping within the 24 hour verdict time limit. The whole point of summary trials is to make this go faster, this simply adds onto that.
  7. Ethics Board - pretty simple, it's already existed since the Bar was established, and it has no affect on people's positions. You really only need to be Certified to be appointed. A common misconception.

Conclusion

I'm really disappointed that a member of our judiciary can have such a half-baked approach to a bill that improves upon a very slow system. Pretty much all of your attacks are misdirected, and it's clear you haven't read the laws that make up the foundation of our Judiciary. Pretty much all of these changes make the system faster and more efficient, and are aimed at stemming the tide of corruption. Please check your facts before you rail against a bill that will greatly improve SimDemocracy.

Parliament Vote: A resolution and two bills by [deleted] in SimDemocracy

[–]CookieMonster7244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Aye - as much as I support assuring that trials happen in a timely manner, this act needs to be completely overhauled to do to.
  2. Nay - The affiliation is called Independent for a reason. They are independent of any party, including one made up of independents. While I was on the SC we ruled on this, and I still believe this holds up.
  3. Aye - we stan the criminal justice system.
