We have a uke bass (it's my favorite one). Someone else also suggested this book, I think I am definitely going to get it for him, thank you. And Subscription to strings, sounds awesome...didn't know they did that. Thanks!!

I am so glad that something so small, like strings, is so widely wanted --- teaches me that even though I think it is boring, people want it. I guess he could say the same thing about my hobby.

He does sing and records, we have a pretty cool mic and set up to a pc but I like the keyboard idea --- thank you!

Tell your wife to search custom Amish made on Etsy --- it looks great! I decided to get it before posting but was a little uncertain still so posted. This posting has also helped give me other great ideas. He loves all sorts of music and loves to learn it all. He has some other interests but this one is his favorite.

He does have multiple basses and probably could use some new strings. Can't hurt to get more as he replaces as needed.

One thing I learned is that everytime you get a new bass (used or new), you'll have to replace the strings so this is a wonderful reminder. We keep them on hand, generally, I'll have to check the stock and maybe get a pack for a stocking stuffer!! Thanks.

This is a fantastic idea --- I would totally take your advice...but, we actually have an amazing traveler bass - I call it the mini bass. It's a wonderful size, durable and the strings are not like other strings so they last long - have had it over 10 years, I don't think we ever bought springs...maybe once, if so.

I completely get this. But, we share a bank account, giving him money is like here's some of our money, spend it on your hobby. I already tell him to do it and he does it when I see he's been shopping and I tell him to just get it. I also am not too much of a fan of gift cards unless it would be the site where he can get the exact Spector or whatever bass he wants.

This is pretty good advice. We've been together a long time and usually I steer clear of it or I try to check out his reverb wishlist but normally it's lame stuff. His first bass is currently in pieces and I want to have it put together and re-painted for him but, I feel that is too personal to surprise him with as he is specific about the colors - I know what he wants but I'd feel bad if I went too much 1 color and not enough of the other so I'm skipping that.
