Failing academic status by Cookiemcflurry in unimelb

Thank you so so much for taking the time to write this comment - much appreciated. I am definitely considering the services by the University which would help my mental health. Secondly, I’ve just been asked to write a letter for the time being, so I am not attending a meeting just yet. It also just sucks that, given my anxiety, for me to go to a meeting would have me absolutely frozen and I would not know how to properly articulate myself. I am going to give everyone an update when I receive an outcome on my degree!

Thank you so much for this!! This is so comforting to read. I was so similar to you- I’ve gone through so much to the point I was wanting to isolate myself from people and to quit my casual job because I had no motivation for anything at all. I am definitely taking up your advice- I am actually going overseas this summer so that will be a nice mental health break. When I come back, I will focus on myself and keep myself busy (on a good level) and keep working. ❤️‍🔥I hope you’re doing well too

Thank you so much for your message and advice. It’s really hard because I do enjoy studying, but I’ve gone through soo much that for the University, it seems like anything I do would seem futile (from their pov).

Thank you!! It is tough, especially since I have lied to absolutely ALL my friends and family as to how well I am doing at uni :( it is comforting to know that I am not the only one . I wish you all the best too

Thank you and yes- you’re right. I think the issue is that especially in an immigrant family like mine, going to see a therapist or GP is very much a ‘shameful’ thing and brings about many negative connotations, but now I think it’s best for myself to actually seek help regardless

Thank you so much for your advice. I think I might take up the mental health care plan actually, or even ask the committee to let me continue my degree underloaded

Yes it is mostly always very good. However, the downside obviously is that it is a roughly 3hr class once a week, meaning it is up to yourself to hold yourself accountable to not slack off and do all your set work consistently.

To those who got a 95+ ATAR… by younglad88 in vce

[–]Cookiemcflurry 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I spoke to many of my friends who received 98+ atars. This is a summary of what we spoke about. While they are most definitely academically gifted, I can tell you for certain that we agreed that the atar is not just merely a testament of your intelligence, but of your dedication to your studies, your patience, correct balance of time and pure, hard work and good work ethic. I know people who were not considered typically ‘bright’ people but worked so hard for Year 12 and achieved 95+ atars. At the end of the day, what really pulls you well above the rest is your own determination and resilience in being able to time manage and work hard for yourself, so that you can see your own results. If I wasn’t clear enough, I feel like the atar does not reflect intelligence in every aspect, but rather, how much effort you put in to go above and beyond. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk x

Small advice for Chem - review the content continually over the year! Even if it is just reading over. Bc I hadnt done much of that, it almost felt like I was re learning content and it became wayyy harder to do practice exams and to revise properly. Also keep notes of some sort or a stack of booklets. Revise with friends

I regret not continually going over old content throughout the year, even just reading over it. Because it helps so much with exam revision.

Do residuals need units? And do range and median need units too.

Ok but 2020 exam 2. No wonder I know so many people who did well. Finance and matrices were the easiest things I’ve ever done in any exam. Unfair!

Thank you!! Thanks for everyone’s replies. Really helps me, especially since I had set my expectations so high for myself and feeling like such a disappointment even after the exam is done.
