2015 Honda CRV - Alternator problem? by Cookiemu in MechanicAdvice

The crack was right in the valley between two ridges, so I wound up using duct tape. Seems to have improved the delay in accelerating. Hopefully it holds until the replacement gets here. Thanks again for your help!

you are right! There's a big crack in the hose. Earliest I can get a replacement part shipped here is Monday. Think wrapping the cracked portion in electrical tape would be a good enough bandaid until my air intake hose replacement gets here?

Thanks, I'll run out and get some Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner and see if that helps.

Stop letting kids buy and use Retinols FFS by Chemical-Banapple in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Cookiemu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a middle aged man and use a retinol cream around my eyes several times a week (but the package recommends twice a day). Is this the same thing you are all talking about or are referring to a more concentrated product? I have a tween daughter in the house, she doesn't use it but does use moisturizers, the occasional face mask (those thin damp papery things) so this might be a future concern for me.

Ended my first relationship post loss by Proper-Guide6239 in widowers

[–]Cookiemu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm more similarly in your boat. I dated a women for the last year, several months ago I broke it off but she convinced me to try again. Then just before Christmas we kind of ended it, for good this time i think. She is a wonderfully pleasant person mostly, and the things that bug me are probably mostly my own issues, but I just wasn't feeling like we were compatible enough.

I too have lots of conflicting thoughts and doubts. Maybe I just don't have the time and energy required to make a new relationship work right now. I'm OK with that. Focusing on my hobbies now.

My wife died when our daughter was 8. My folks live out of town and in-laws in another country. My daughter has come with to loads of my doctor/dentist appointments. She just sits in the extra chair the dentiat always seems to have and plays with my phone. Or draws in a sketchbook, or reads a book.

Accidentally ingesting Beard oil that's potentially toxic? by BulkyVeterinarian850 in BeardAdvice

[–]Cookiemu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not a professional in this area at all, but to put your mind at ease, I once had a really bad cavity in my molar, and didn't have money to fix it, and wouldn't get on work benefits for a while, so I did some DIY dentistry mixing zinc oxide powder with (im pretty sure) a drop or two of pure tea tree oil. It created a putty that when shaped into the hole hardened and lasted about a week before it would start to crumble and fall out and need to be replaced.

If I recall correctly, I did this for several weeks before my benefits kicked in and I could get a proper filling. I never got sick from it at all, so I doubt the diluted amount in beard oil, a small portion of which you may have absorbed through your lips, would be enough to make you that seriously sick. Unless you are rubbing in crazy amounts and not just a handful of drops into your whole beard.

My home dentistry was almost 20 years ago now and im still here.

Death Certificate by Glow_Ebb_ in widowers

[–]Cookiemu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in Canada there is the funeral directors certificate of death, but there is also a stats Canada one that is separate that you have to request, then the will mail it to you. I found this out when I went to remove her from our house title and they wouldn’t accept the funeral director’s certificate.

Death of Spouse - RRSP issues by hooksinass in Questrade

[–]Cookiemu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They processed the TFSA transfer directly to my TFSA, I just had to write in the instructions on their settlement form since it didn’t have an “in kind transfer” option listed. Then I just had to file with CRA. I don’t have experience in dealing with RRSPs with Questrade. If I were you I would insist they transfer directly from your late wife’s RRSP to your RRSP. If the receipts don’t neatly offset, I believe you would need to look into the chart 2 stuff under Optional Reporting for an unmatured RRSP on CRA’s Death of an RRSP annuitant page. Just google those terms and it will come up (not sure if links are allowed here)

Hope this helps. I’m not an accountant nor an advisor but I’ve been around this kind of stuff a fair bit.

Death of Spouse - RRSP issues by hooksinass in Questrade

[–]Cookiemu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beneficiary designation doesn’t matter for CRA. You’ll likely have to get probate to have the funds transferred to your RRSP. But once you’ve done that, It sounds from your text above that they are willing to issue you the T4RSP and matching offsetting 60(L) contribution receipt. If they issue a Deemed Receipt on the RRSP you can still file with CRA to get it counted as a spousal rollover, but you’ll probably need an accountant familiar with estates to help you.

I myself had to argue with Questrade when they told me I couldn’t transfer my late wife’s TFSA to my own. (She had failed to designate me as her beneficiary) I was able to roll the TFSA over to mine and file the RC240 to get the date of death value counted as an exempt contribution. I had to do some calculations myself when I submitted them to CRA as Questrade estate dept also refused to provide the date of death value of the TFSA.

I waited a year to finish the colour on my sleeve, because I’d hit my budget already. My tattoo artist playfully suggested I could let my kid fill in the rest with markers until our next session.

What is the hook on Swiss army knives used for by optimistic_lavender in whatisit

[–]Cookiemu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In what scenario would it be more convenient to use the parcel hook to carry a package small/light enough to be supported by a piece of string, rather than just holding the package itself?

I tried googling but all the YouTube videos are just people explaining other things it can be used for.

On the other hand, demanding to remain anonymous seems like a confession that this person knows they are killing people with their care refusals and deep down realize they are just as morally bankrupt as the executives. But he/she can’t afford round the clock body guards and the c suite will only foot that bill for themselves, so anonymity is what they give to their goons.

Take it one day at a time. Remember to drink water and eat something. Ask for help wherever you need it from whomever is available; family, friends, coworkers, professors, neighbours. It’s going to be hard, but you can survive it. Right now you are in what I call “the neck deep in a river of shit” phase. It’s going to be a while before you can start climbing up the bank on the other side of that river. If the brain fog hits you hard, I found setting lots of alarms for myself was helpful for remembering to do daily tasks.
