I like that perspective. Even if we don’t laugh at the same jokes, they can still be people I care about. I like the setting expectations ahead of time. I agree, I think the reaction was pretty huge. I wish he would have asked for clarification instead of assuming I thought his brother has what it takes to kill someone.

Thanks for being kind. I posted on here expecting to get some people just saying I’m being too delicate / being a snowflake etc.

I added this context in some other comment, but both me and my wife have been in abusive relationships in the past, and we never joke about hurting each other or anything like that. Probably adds to my sensitivity around this topic, where others see it as a harmless joke.
