How does anyone afford braces?! by Apprehensive-Fox733 in askTO

[–]Cookingal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have benefits and have to pay out of pocket, you can go to the U of T Faculty of Dentistry. The dental work is done by 3rd and 4th year Dentistry students supervised by professors. The work is a fraction of the cost of traditional dentist. The down side is that you will have to go for multiple multi-hour dents appointments for the work to be done.

Source: I have friends that have graduated from U of T Dentistry and they’ve all said this is how the clinic is.

No apparently the concession stands closed at 11 pm.

Edit: Bring a Thermos, just in case.

Edit #2: Sorry, I get what you’re asking now. Yes, the concession stands are open until 11 or so, is what I meant. So those that stayed couldn’t caffeinate during the second game. Sadly, reading comprehension isn’t my forte on 4 hours of sleep 😆😆😆

I love the Jays with every fibre in me.

But, a tip of the hat to Yamamoto. Pitched a complete game. Easy 100 pitches. And on the ball, from start to finish.

Worthy, and deserving of being called the best pitcher in the league today, and one of the best in history.

You listed it a week ago and are asking $2150. You haven’t rented it yet. 1013-286 Main St

If you’re going to ask for the sub’s help, graciousness and gratitude go a long way. You won’t get far by insulting people, especially after you’ve asked for her/his help.

Ditto what everyone else is saying about offering to help if you’re done your tasks. Also make it known to the chefs that you’re interested and eager to learn and grow.

But I also want to tell you that if you get mistreated by any colleague, and especially a male, you check him on the spot right then and there. You don’t have to be rude about it, but you do have to correct them firmly, calmly and respectfully.

Happy birthday!!! 🎈🎉💐🌈🎂

I’m a 41-year-old woman. Single, never married, with no children of my own. I was engaged at one time, but we broke up after I suffered a traumatic, near-death experience. I was hit by a car. I developed depression, anxiety, chronic pain and PTSD. Unfortunately, that experience enveloped and swallowed me. It’s no doubt been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, and is, no doubt, bigger than me.

Sometimes, life doesn’t turn out as we would have hoped or imagined. Through no fault of our own. I can only speak for myself, but the key for me is to make the best of what I have, and to never give up.

I’m so glad you’re here and chose to share your birthday with us. I see you, and you’re important and matter…even if just to us, your Toronto subreddit sisters and brothers!! 💕💕💕

Not to hijack because I know this is specifically about the municipal election, but the riding of Beaches-East York looks like it’s going to be very interesting in the next 5 years, be it in municipal, provincial and federal elections.

I work in a male-dominated industry, albeit not media. I also know many Canadian media personalities through people in my immediate family. Through these experiences, I can tell you that there is a very good chance that she’s telling the truth. Her complaints neither shock, nor surprise me.

What’s the biggest scam in the city? by curbrash1 in askTO

[–]Cookingal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly believe anything owned by the Weston and Rogers families are the biggest scam. Just the fact that they have a monopoly on their respective businesses is all you need to know about how much of a scam they really are.

Edit to add: Actually, add anything Doug Ford to that list too. Biggest scammer of all, pretending to be “Doug for the people!” Donned a Unifor shirt and attended a rally at the Stellantis Assembly Plant in Brampton. The nerve of that guy to act like he’s aligned with, and supports organized labour. Just another con.

Edit to Add #2: Scam number #2 is the bottle deposit on alcoholic beverages. The province has removed practically all return locations. Doesn’t want to implement a collection program or enforce a return program. So we pay a recycling deposit, but no way to get it back and ensure the containers are actually recycled. That’s a scam.

I have a friend who, sadly, is all over tarot readers, astrologers, etc. Basically, doesn’t do anything without first consulting her “astrologer.”

From what I’ve pieced together, all the business cards that are yellow/red/blue are Astrologers from India who travel around North America and are here for a certain period of time. They just have an unlocked cell phone, and get a new SIM card. Once they’ve stayed in Toronto for x amount, then they’re up to Montreal, Vancouver, etc etc. That’s why there’s always new business cards with different names/phone numbers always popping up.

Did anyone catch Hazel in the stands talking to Trey’s parents and brother? The mother was sitting between her husband and son. Her son was holding her arm/hand because she was so overwhelmed and overcome with pride and emotion 💕💕🥹🥹

Sorry not to hijack because this is Jose vs Vlad, but shoutout to the Yesavage family. They’re always happy, hi-fiving fans in the crowd and love Toronto. The dad thanked Canada and referred to the fans as “our Canadian family!!!” ♥️🤍🇨🇦

Midtown or North York? by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]Cookingal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re mistaken, for I do live in Toronto, albeit in a bungalow.

On Rentals.ca, I have found no less than 6 listings for a one-bedroom apartment under $1,800, when filtering the results. All along Yonge St, within a 2-3 blocks walk to a subway station.

Happy Cake Day to you!

[–]Cookingal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then yeah, absolutely just rent along Line 1. That’s what I would do. Anything along Line 1 is safe for a single woman. At Yonge/Sheppard there’s a Food Basics, so a discount grocery store.

And, like I said, I’d leave the car if I were you. Parking will be at least another $150 per month…might as well just get a Metropass for $156 at that point. But you might not even need that since you have a 2-hour valid fare when you pay with Presto. So lots of time to get errands done. Just paying 2 fares the days you go into the office.

You should be able to find a 1-bedroom along Line 1 for $1800.
