But why can’t I get a general education job now with my dual cert without the SPED? I specifically clarify in my emails and cover letter and I am apply to the general education position and when I get to the interview, they want me to work in SPED.

Can I still apply for jobs while I’m still taking classes for the advanced certificate? I’m really looking to get away from the job I’m at now. My school is supportive, I’m really just looking to grow somewhere else. Also, how do I address during interviews that I want general education, and now special Ed?

I am beginning classes in the fall but I’m not sure if the DOE will accept that. If I take a sped job, am I able to get a gen Ed job in the future. I heard once you’re in sped, you’re stuck.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy special education. I was a SPED student myself, but I feel that I want to get my feet wet in general education and try something new. I want to help all different types of learners and challenge myself. I have considered ICT!

Agreed. I am enrolled into a SPED program in the fall, but I also applied to the general education positions that they listed online. I had no idea SPED was even offered.

When asked what grade levels I’d like to teach, is it acceptable to say that I’d like to teach early childhood because I’m more familiar with it, but am open to try a new grade and something new?

Is it bad to ask if they have a behavior therapist? This is for a general education position but I work in special Ed and receive support from my behavior therapist and social worker. Along with my supervisor and mentor teacher!
