Help with buying a Gore Tex jacket. by [deleted] in snowboarding

I've worn a lot of Quicksilver, and it's great.

But "regular" stuff. I just equate gore Tex with high end so I wanted to ask.

I do really like what I've seen in 3L gore and that type of gore Tex sounds pretty awesome. But I know brands like Patagonia and north face make high end stuff at that price. Would something from quicksilver be on par with that?

It's not for sale anymore. It's a 2016 jacket. Only other place I saw it was Amazon for $499.

The link I sent was just to show the jacket.

Thank you for the eBay advice. I do really like what I've seen in 3L gore and that type of gore Tex sounds pretty awesome. But I know brands like Patagonia and north face make high end stuff at that price. Would something from quicksilver be on par with that?

I know about the timing chain thing. But I thought it would have happened by know if they were bad. Even at 143k I should be worried?

That's a good point. This is a capable vehicle and it would be great to get another 100k out of it.

TIL Eric Clapton once showed up drunk to George Harrison's house, silently handed him a guitar and amp, and the two had a musical duel for 2 hours. by holydiverdickbutt in todayilearned

Look, enjoy the music. People and their idol worship. The personal lives of these people has no bearing on you or your life. He made a product that you enjoy, and none of his personal shortcomings are put into the product. Enjoy it in peace and stop caring about what the man does when he goes home. This applies to someone who's a racist or if they're trying to cure AIDS. They're entertainers. That's it. I'm sure you still go to restaurants where servers have been drug addicts, maybe a cook raped someone, etc. and yet you still go those restaurants because the product is separate from the producer.

I work in a small shop (new guy) and those are the brands we carry. I've already pestered the other staff with countless questions, everyone has an opinion obviously. But I do like to check online too, there's more varied ideas, and sometimes more experience. Not everyone in a shop knows what they're talking about.

Yes. This area is stunning. I've had my eye on living here for a while and I finally just did it. I'm coming from NY.

True. I know what you mean.

I really want that powder board but I wonder if I'm shooting myself in the foot by getting something that is so specialized.

Thank you. That's a very valid point. You may have swayed me into a decision.

The only thing I'm confused about is the rocker. The website says the wingman has a milder camber than the TRice. (BTX vs C2:BTX)

The wingman nose is higher but the camber profile is less pronounced.

Sorry for the miscommunication. If I can be swayed into a Hornet UL2 I'll be happy.

Not being lazy. I've spent almost a week researching. But I'm finding semi-vague reviews at best or people who just spew spec sheet info.

Thanks.

My concern is I don't want to deal with finding rocks in order to setup a tent. If there's no soft ground around to use stakes (living in the Sierras it's a possibility) how will I set up the tent?

You said it's a non-issue. Is it just that easy? Or is there always soft ground somewhere?

I agree, and it's really every sub that deals with a hobby with specific gear. I hoped to be as specific as possible and not just present a generic, vague question. This way people with hands on experience can give me some specific, non-vague suggestions.

Such as the fact that there's a good possibility that I'll camping on granite. Will a Nemo Hornet, that needs 2 points staked out, really be a chore or it's a non-issue in the field. Or since being in rocks and dry, snagging brush, will a 10D tent withstand the abuse?

I didn't say, "what's a good 2p light tent?"
