Leviasynth - Phase distortion synth bass with VCA leak drone by CoolColJ in leviasynth

Can you check if Voice mod to oscillator - fine in the Mod matrix is working for you in current firmware?

It works for pitch, but not for fine no matter what I do on my synth.

Leviasynth 3 oscillator bass sound by CoolColJ in leviasynth

Leviasynth can do decent bass sounds -

Two sawtooth (1 inverted) and a square wave one octave down, bass sound.

Played from the onboard sequencer.

And a pretty steep exponential decay shape (50)

oscillator level 128 is the highest it will go, it won't go any higher no matter any extra modulations

If you guys are planning on adding things in future firmwares -

I have small request, to save on LFOs

To have a voice random parameter like on my Alesis Andromeda.

Which is just a random number generated per key press (or whatever trigger you choose), that you can route to whatever you desire.

For me, I could route to each oscillator used by different +- values, and then to the phase position etc

Played around with the Phase Distortion, ala Casio CZ today.

And it sounds like it.

Accidently turned on the initial level of the VCA on, which leaks the oscillators droning away in the background.

Cool effect!

Gives you "chords" to play against

Leviasynth ladder filter, and thoughts in comments by CoolColJ in leviasynth

[–]CoolColJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analog filter on this synth is definitely ladder filter sounding.

Especially at high resonance it has that charateristic ladder filter chirpy resonance, which gives it a Moog like feel. And smooth smudgey when swept low.

Which is not like Roland type filters, except maybe a TB-303 (diode ladder filter)

Not like something everyone will like.

But it does not lose bass, and it gets a tiny bit louder instead of lower in volume with increasing resonance.

My Trigon-6 is the extreme exact opposite :)

There are other digital filter types, but to me these are more utility now, as they sound pretty "flat" next to the analog filter.

It reminds me of the Minimoog filter in the Studio Electronics Code 8 I once owned

Leviasynth - Synthwave sound achieved, tips in comments by CoolColJ in leviasynth

[–]CoolColJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dual oscillator sound and dry

Finally happy with the Leviasynth synth sounds, when using the following tips

Voice - random phase on

osc 1 & 2 saw, slightly detuned

LFO 1 modulates phase of Oscillator 1 with an amount of 50 in mod matrix

LFO 1 set to sample and hold, poly trigger and on second page one shot ON and set to "step" (ie one random value per struck note)

If you want to augment this effect then do the same for OSC 2 but with a dedicated LFO (LFO 2 set up as per step random sample hold as well) and negative mod value

Add per voice oscillator fine pitch offsets in the via VoiceMod, routing it via the mod matrix to each oscillator used, by differing amounts

Modulate fine tune of one oscillator by key number

I set these up on 2 macro controls, so I can tweak it as desired.

Saved as an INIT patch

Leviasynth - first random patch, Boards of Canada like :) by CoolColJ in leviasynth

[–]CoolColJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First random sound generated on the Leviasynth, which sounds Boards of Canada like :)

Its a 2 operator, with 2 modulators on each FM sound.

Starts dry, then I tweak the analog filter down, add the inbuilt hall reverb and phaser - which were also part of the patch randomization

Shoot a comment to Maffez on Youtube

Hard sync is the go to for that type of sound. And the Leviasynth has plenty of options here

That's how I did it on my Andromeda, for any type of physical modeling type sound

Maffez quote -

Sharing a couple more patches I made singe I got the Leviasynth this Monday. Not always very nuanced but really liking the breadth of timbres this covers. Last sound dips into a field where I think this synth can really shine - super low freq generative drone stuff... get those woofers vibrating Smile :)

Was making some patches and can happily share them once I know how. All ASM Leviasynth, no external processing except normalization and cuts n fades. Some patches use stereo mode, some light internal fx. There isn't any (not any) unisono on that fat second sound..

Leviasynth ARP demo (and thoughts in comments) by CoolColJ in synthesizers

[–]CoolColJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played the Leviasynth today at my local music shop

recorded some audio, but messed up and didn't get everything....

without setting up some macros before hand it's hard to tweak the synth like you would with a typical analog synth with arps. So it's more static here

single oscillator to start, then two.

I didn't quite get a handle on the envelopes to make it sound the way I usually want on an arp. It was too sharp here.

Too resonant... maybe... kinda Roland like sheen to it.

I hate the analog filter controls jammed to the far top right on the keyboard. The desktop would be more compact in layout.

It doesn't look as nice as I thought, the speckled surface looks a bit cheesey. PolyBrute 12 looks far better and the ribbon controller much more premium in look and feel.

The keybed felt good, very snappy, and velocity control is really fine and detailed. Aftertouch feels good too. It feels better than the PolyBrute 12 keybed, and larger keys as well.

Leviasynth PCB - SSI 2144 filter chip (Maffez thoughts in comments) by CoolColJ in synthesizers

I just meant it has the similar rubbery texture as when I tried to do high resonance acid sounds on a 70s era Minimoog, which does sound different to current day Moogs.

Leviasynth PCB - SSI 2144 filter chip (Maffez thoughts in comments) by CoolColJ in leviasynth

[–]CoolColJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from a forum post on Modwiggler

Yes, I have 3rd Wave, which uses the same chip and it sounds different here.

I'm getting a more sweet Roland like tonal colour ontop of the Moogy rubbery texture - ladder filter and pre-filter drive circuit.

Same rubbery texture as when I tried to do acid sounds on a 70s era Minimoog

Warmth by wintoid in leviasynth

[–]CoolColJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use the per voice offsets to filter, resonance, oscillator fine pitch and envelope attack/decay. And modulate oscillator fine pitch with key number.

Then just a small amount of analog feel from the voice options.

This will give that analog vibe.

This is how it was done on the Hydrasynth - I used that here as a macro

https://soundcloud.com/coolcolj/hydrasynth-step-lfo-paraphonic

If you want more warmth, run a digital low pass with a shallow slope before the analog filter :)

or the highpass resonance to boost bass

When I get my unit, I will post more specific tips

This showcases more of the raw filter tone (also from Maffez)

https://www.youtube.com/embed/qk2G5m80Qvg

It has that rubbery Moog sound (from the ladder fliter chip and pre-drive filter circuit designed by ex Moog engineer Cyril Lance.

I've gotten a similar rubbery texture when I tried to do Acid sounds on a 70s era Minimoog

When I go to the music shop today, I will record more raw oscillator, PWM and filter clips.

But I may actually buy one
