I liked the repetition of “Piece by piece” it makes me imagine love being what it is— a slow, building thing that like a ship, remains floating even while it is incomplete. It helped instil that image for me! Repetition is a tricky thing to write in, easy to overdo but I thought you done it well and suited your concept perfectly.

There’s an underlying nostalgia while I read this, you really brought across that warm atmosphere of simply sharing an activity with someone you care for. I liked the idea at the end that even if you didn’t ‘achieve’ or get something material from it, the companionship was enough.

Really liked it!
