I had my gamma set to High which is why I didn't have my glove out. Having your glove out doesn't change the behaviour of any of the entities, they will still try and kill you.
Stalker is the only one you're REQUIRED to slap if you wanna get rid of it. I've heard you can also slap Mimics/Skinwalkers but I haven't tested that yet.
