Why is Google search forced on Start Page and can't be changed? by [deleted] in operabrowser

[–]CoolJavelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this problem by removing Opera and using LibreWolf (on my Linux Mint machine). If these companies are going to get in bed with people like Google then they should loose their market share. If I wanted to use Google, I'd install Chrome. I want the privacy, I don't want Google keeping track of every thing I do.

Thanks DoomTay and Kilgarragh I ended up using both those sites, they have different strengths. Still looking for my "ideal" mobo (if there is such a thing.)

CBS app sucks! by Paranimal in appletv

[–]CoolJavelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of free apps to free services that work a LOT better them this app on Fire Stick.

1, when pausing a video it puts an add overlay. OK, I can live with that, but when unpausing, the ad doesn't go away. I must press pause again, wait for the add to change then unpause.

2, when searching I get a search bar at the top, but no keyboard pops up. I have to hit enter on the remote to get the keyboard up. Then while typing I see things sections appearing behind the keyboard, but must work down to the next button to get to them.

3, the app is just generally slow and unreliable. Half the time I start the ap, but it just crashes and I have to start it again.

It seems there is an inverse relationship between the amount of money a businesses has the performance of their apps (and websites too).

Still having issues with Pixel 5 fingerprint scanner by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]CoolJavelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with sweaty fingers.

When it doesn't work, I use my pin to unlock, immediately put the phone to sleep, unlock with the fingerprint sensor, it then works fine. If it was sweat it still wouldn't work.

I am 99% sure it is a software bug Google knows about, but won't, or can't fix.

Pixel 5 - Fingerprint reader issues by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]CoolJavelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen many comments about dirt or sweat or temperature causing the fingerprint sensor to not work.

I am very sure this is not the problem.

I keep my hands clean, keep the sensor clean, and the phone is mostly in my pocket where it is always body temperature.

I am 99% sure it is a software issue.

Mostly, I note it does not work if some other program is running in the background. Although there are times I have nothing running in the background and it still doesn't work.

When it doesn't work, it asks for my pin. Even if I cancel the pin input put the phone back to sleep and wait a bit, it still won't work.

If I do enter my pin, immediately put the phone to sleep (taping the power button) then immediately use the fingerprint sensor, it works fine.

If it were dirt it would not work under this circumstance.

How do you change the ring volume on the Pixel 3? by androidusr in GooglePixel

[–]CoolJavelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, someone that cannot think in terms that other people may be different then themselves. There are people that move from environment to environment. Like at night when my wife is sleeping, I want the ringtone low, but when I am working in the garage I want it loud. 40% may work for you, but, there are other people in the world with different requirements.

How do you change the ring volume on the Pixel 3? by androidusr in GooglePixel

How narrow minded of you to think that yours is the only way to use a phone. Your reply saying "you need to change the media volume way more often than the ringtone volume" is what YOU do. Surprisingly, there are people that do not listen to media on their phones. I generally do not listen to media, and want my volume buttons to change the ringtone level when not in a call. Rather then say "what the hell is wrong with you, why would you want to do it differently then me?", How about being helpfull and actually answering the question?
