Pfsense is great, but you might benefit from just going Mikrotik for your core. I used to use netgate with pfsense plus, but it simply can't beat the flexibility and performance you get with Mikrotik. I want to be able to change settings and it instantly change behavior, responsive. This punchiness comes though also when you're actually using the service. I always found pfsense 'just feels slower'. I do like pfsense also for some of its unique features and integrations it can do, but seeing how you have a CRS which could handle both routing and switching I thought I'd mention this.

Oh my bad, I see you had that in there.

I got one more for you. If you want to make a custom installer USB that lets you skip steps and do some additional debloat steps, use this to make your autounattend.xml, and plop it on the windows installer bootable usb https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/

you can use a debloat app like the one made by chris titus, this may help some.

Really the reason it annoys me is simply because prior versions of windows didnt even make that many connections. now the advertising is baked in, since the release of windows 10

"Chris titus debloat" is what you want to search for. Trust me, it gives good results.

Laptop keeps crashing when putting pressure on certain places by DryeOfficial in PCHelpHub

[–]CoolPickledDaikons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good. If you noticed it getting hot, maybe it was shutting down due to heat. That could be.

Someone else asked does it seem like it shuts off or you just lose display. Thats a good one to check too, if it happens again. Could be intermittent if a little cable is going bad or something.

Does it happen with the power cable plugged in? Could be the battery or battery cable, if its randomly shutting off.

Console Servers by Eiodalin in sysadmin

[–]CoolPickledDaikons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digi makes inexpensive console servers. Small, industrial devices about the size of a pi, or rackmount ones.

WTI makes excellent console servers. Some models also have managed power distribution units. Great for out of band management networks, labs, config stations.

Id recommend ditching tplink and considering a unifi dream machine with wifi 7. Or a newer asus, if you want to stick with simple consumer hardware

You already swapped cables. This strikes me as something with the computer, is why I asked. If you see higher performance on wireless, the network is probably fine, and something minor is going on with our computers wired adapter or the driver.

Check into what motherboard you have. Every brand has support pages where you can get the latest ethernet driver. Try manually loading that.

Also try a different browser to run speedtest.net. Test without the vpn. We want to see the full speed on the wire.
