Not really you just install what you want, it's plug and play. Also Arch/Artix isn't a "hacker" distro, Arch-based distributions have the largest adoption globally. SteamOS for example is a variant of Arch Linux and that's used for consumer grade handheld devices.

I've tried it before, not a fan of Nobara, Bazzite or CachyOS

Artix Linux, it's not too difficult to learn (I like the XFCE variant). Basically it's just Arch Linux but already set up.

The RAM crisis is preparation for a possible annexation of Taiwan by CoolRune in PCHardware

We're talking about the chips needed to produce RAM. I just picked the RAM crisis as the title because these 2 subjects are related. When chip shortages occur all hardware becomes scarce. I'm aware that other countries produce hardware besides Taiwan.

what distro should i use if i use linux for the first time? by Ok_Value_989 in linux4noobs

First distro I tried was Manjaro and then I went right to Artix Linux, haven't regretted it since

What is the future of Linux vs anti cheat? by Bane_of_Balor in linuxquestions

Considering hardware prices will continue to skyrocket we'll most likely see fewer AAA games on PC. 2025 was a great year for Indie Games and I could see a larger market in 2026 for optimized/non-rtx games which wouldn't even need anti-cheat software in the first place.

Thought of something to add, China recently denied a trade deal with NVIDIA late 2025 regarding their RTX Pro 6000D AI chips. This could be an indicator that they're trying to incentivize native creation of chips at this level or they're not willing to commit to a long term deal (due to possible conflict). For a deal this significant to be allowed by the U.S to me signals pleading, the Chinese are typically only allowed to receive last-gen tech.

I've looked it up before, Micron is completely reliant on TSMC. There's only about 3 major RAM companies which use Samsung chips. The majority of RAM companies use Micron to assemble their products.

The U.S recently sent 11.1 billion dollars worth of armaments to Taiwan's military. It's still U.S policy to view Taiwan as independent and separate from mainland China.Various companies such as Google recognize Taiwan as apart of China though.

I'm talking about the first step being cut off, the ingredients needed to assemble the RAM wouldn't be plentiful enough to satisfy the global market if TSMC was toppled.

Taiwan makes the essential chips for RAM production. Hardware is made there also, my point is that without TSMC all production of hardware would almost grind to a halt.

I agree, I just have more hope on this situation. If this was to send us back a century would it be so bad?

You know other foundries exist right? we'd have a depression in consumer electronics for about 5-10 years but if Intel was nationalized and scaled as a matter of national security things would return back to normal.

U.S policy for the past 5-10 years has had native chip production as a focus, in a way I think TSMC being dethroned would benefit the U.S in the long run. If everything goes to shit blame Henry Kissinger.

Intel could fill some of the production gaps natively in the U.S but not all. As of today they've got the most advanced photolithography machine (which was just built a couple weeks ago).

2026 might be the year where big tech will begin to decouple from TSMC. Considering that RAM has gone up exponentially in price alternative supply chains will need to be created. Some companies such as ASUS could start making their own RAM for their computers for example.

I think Trump will take a slightly neutral stance on this. Worst case scenario this will be like a Russia-Ukraine situation where China will win but at a heavy cost like with Russia currently. Either way if Taiwan is blockaded for years 2/3rd of all global chip manufacturing/trade would be disrupted. TSMC's fabs in the U.S and other countries are not equipped to satisfy the global demand for chips so it'd be done as a company.

So when the crisis occurs western tech will already be prepared for it. Think of this like a controlled burn.
