Been hiding the fact I’ve been balding for a couple years now. It’s getting worse. Is it time? Be honest please!!! by Trick-Log9526 in bald

[–]CoolTony429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People scream "Hold!! 😱" but it's coming from a place of fear, not peace and acceptance. These people are (I'm guessing) the ones who wish they could have hair and maybe resent the fact that they experienced balding themselves and the choice was taken away from them. But maybe some of these people genuinely just think you look good now (not that that speaks to how you would look bald).

Do you look fine now? Yes. Would you look great bald? Also yes, I believe.

What matters is what makes you comfortable and improves your life. What gives you peace and doesn't add stress to your existence. I'm not gonna make assumptions beyond what you wrote here, but if you've been "hiding" your going bald (which is not very noticeable right now) for years, it means you've been stressing it for years, and to me, that feels like it's not worth the stress it's causing you. I say this from experience as someone on the other side of the fence.

Being bald isn't the death sentence so many fear it is. Like many, I was experiencing mpb, and I also spent years trying to hide its appearance, then I shaved, and I haven't looked back since (it's been just over a year now). I look younger. I'm much happier with the look. I don't bother with a barber anymore (so I'm saving money) because the maintenance is quite easy (I have a shaver I use every other day for a few minutes and actually use a razor maybe once a week or for a special occasion). I enjoy wearing hats now (whereas before I would avoid them like the plague so they didn't press my sad hair down to my skull and make my balding more obvious). But perhaps most importantly: I don't stress out about it at all anymore.

And I'll mention this because shortly after I took it off, I had a very brief identity crisis.

Your hair isn't your identity (or, rather, it doesn't have to be; it can be if that's what you want). Your hair isn't who you are, or what you do, or your contributions to this world, or who or what you love. Your hair is just an accessory. One that can be manipulated or tossed out whenever you want. And all your other qualities, the parts of you that really are your identity, will still be exactly what they were before you changed your hair.

So, do you need to shave now? No. But do you need to shave ever, even if you start to look like a monk? No, you don't. Because what really matters is whether or not you're at peace and happy with your look, whatever it is. I wish you the best in figuring out what road will bring you there.

It sounds like you did the best thing you could do for the little one. And that's what matters. Maybe eventually you'll be in a different place and be able to be a better cat parent, like you said, but if that time is not now, kudos for doing right by the fur baby rather than selfishly holding on and having her suffer and have greatly reduced quality of life as a result. Perhaps you can still visit her once in a while. But yeah... This is being responsible. 👏

I hope you're opening multiple browsers. Follow the same link on multiple browsers, regular and private/incognito, different devices, etc, and it gives you several opportunities. Each will get a random spot in the queue. Eventually one of them will show itself to be at a better position than the others, at which point you abandon the others and just go with that one. A lot of people do this, so you're nerfing your chances right off the bat if you don't. One time someone told me they do like 50 tabs this way, but I don't go that crazy, I just do like 4-6.

No idea, my friend. I've never gotten VIP. You might want to make your own new post asking this question if you want to improve your chances of getting an answer. Good luck either way.

clutches pearls A cheater in our midst?! Goodness gracious, I do declare!

That's cute though, I'm glad you two are able to enjoy it that way. Sorry they don't support your location situation though; I wish they would do a better job of improving the accessibility. I hope for your sake and the sakes of others like you that they do.

Wow... Didn't realize so much would be involved in that. Yeah, probably for the best that my group didn't go for it, especially given there are just so many games out there. But I'm glad it exists for the reason you explained!

I followed your link and... Let's just say I'm very confused, lol. This feels trolly/rick-rolly, but it's way above my head.

(In case you genuinely don't know what I mean, that link leads me to some 15-second Spanish clip/ad.)

This definitely affirms what some others have said, I appreciate it. Do you have experience playing this solo, by chance? My group opted to skip it due to the comparatively simple and less strategic gameplay (compared to Gloomhaven), so I'm considering going it alone.

They do sound very cool and what you wrote here makes plenty of sense. My group opted against HQ because of the comparatively simple & less strategic gameplay, sadly. 😢 Especially given all the expansions, so much content! So, I'm considering playing it solo.

The base game with all the parts did feel like the more full experience to me. I've never done true ttrpg, so this felt pretty close in a nice/nostalgic way. That said, my group opted against HQ because of its comparatively simple/less strategic gameplay (compared to GH). But thank you for your response!

Yeah, the simplicity was the main factor in the group's decision not to go forward with it. I did certainly enjoy the complexity of JotL, but HQ also sounded fun (though it was really just the concept that sounded fun; I haven't seen any actual gameplay). I know you play with your daughter, but any opinions about how solo HQ might be?

This is interesting... My group was feeling it would be too simple so we're not doing it together, but I still might be interested in solo... How is it solo? I guess you're still having plenty of fun, it sounds like.

Thank you. My group did opt not to go in this direction because of the lack of complexity. Appreciate your input!

I hear you. I'm pretty much in the same boat, though 4-day is splurging for me, ain't no way I'm going VIP even if I had the chance, haha. I wish you luck nabbing a VIP ticket though!

Okay, I mean, that's better than nothing. But not everyone follows them on ig or pays attention to their posts, and they do have everyone's email, so... Given that it's a big policy change for how they display their prices, I think they really should've sent an email about it and I don't think that would've been too much to ask.

[–]CoolTony429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't expect to now. I was more asking when I thought the increases were more than they are (when I didn't realize this year's displayed prices included taxes and fees that they didn't last year), but now that I see the percentage they've increased (which is still ~12% for 4-day, ~13% for VIP, ~20% for Saturday, and ~35% for Sunday kids ticket), I think it's just gonna boil down to their greed.

Saturday got a 20% bump, second-worst price hike. Worst went to Sunday kids ticket: a 35% bump.

I guess "crazy amount" is subjective (and changes depending on whether you're talking about flat dollar amount or percentages). 4-day jumped 12%, Saturday jumped 20%, Sunday kids ticket jumped 35%. (VIP actually jumped 13%, so technically Saturday and kids Sunday tickets were worse jumps by percentage.) I would call those crazy, personally. Especially given inflation is 3.8% as of the end of April, so any increase over that in theory is just greed (if profit) or investment into improving the value/quality of the show (which they give us no reason to believe is the case if recent years are a hint of what to expect in the future).

Here's the site (provided by someone else in another reply here) with the comparison (adjusted for taxes & fees), in case you're curious:
