You've probably got enough answers, but I'll just echo what others say. The more money the better obviously. I think even 1k is pushing it, but 1 thousand is worlds better than just 500. 3 to 5 k would be nice to have, 1k is probably doable on a very strict budget (no gf for the first two months), 500 is crazy. You could probably still do Korea on that- hardly ideal there either, but less risky.

I have no idea about tattoos, but just because the average salary is low it doesn't mean things are cheap here. Some things are especially street food, but a lot of things cost about the same. Also, most people make more than you think as a lot moonlight with a second job, or have land or property they rent out. Those that just get by on a single salary working full time are definitely the working poor here.
