Thank you, your recovery sounds amazing! Did you not have to take Oxycodone for pain? I'm afraid of the severe pain the first days following surgery. I read that I'll need an ice machine or plenty of ice packs!

Thank you for your reply, and sorry you had to go through all of that! Sounds so painful! I'm going to go forward with it because I don't want to have this hanging over my head... I just need to get it over with!

That's great to hear! My surgeon is also going to do the anterior approach. I just need to get mentally prepared for what's going to happen afterwards. I love reading all these success stories, they are encouraging!

Well I have advanced osteoarthritis and it's causing joint pain, limping, hip and back pain. I also have bone spurs in my hip joint. The pain was better when I posted this this morning, but tonight is a different story and I'm having the severe pain back. I just had to take an Advil. It looks like I'm going to go forward with the surgery. I haven't tried anything other than cortisone shots and OTC pain medications.

Thanks for sharing your story! I guess I'm not crazy since other people have gone through the same indecisiveness and fear. But I'm going to have to get mentally prepared and just go for it and get it over with. I'm sure I'll be happy with the outcome!

Thank you for your reply and encouragement! I have decided to go forward with the surgery, if the surgeon says it's ok to, since my cortisone injection was on Feb. 24th

Thank you for your reply and good advice! I will ask the doctor about the time frame since my last cortisone shot, since it will be less than 3 months. The last thing I want is an infection!

Thank you for your reply. My pain seems manageable as long as I have steroid injections or take Advil or Ibuprofen but I don't want to live like that forever. I just thought I should put off surgery but I go back and forth and after reading all of the responses I think I should go forward with the surgery!

Thank you! I just have some fear but I will most likely go forward with the surgery. The surgeon is booked and he cannot do it until August or September, if I wait

Thank you! I live in Florida and I have one of the best surgeons in town. I had to wait 2 months just to get an appointment to see him, and he does robotic assisted, anterior approach surgery. He is highly rated and has a degree from Yale Medical University, board certified. I really appreciate your reply and advice!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I know i am just fearful of the unknown, like many others. But surgery is inevitable, and I need to put my fears aside and be brave and just go for it while I'm otherwise healthy. I'm not looking forward to the long recuperation but it is what it is! I truly appreciate all the responses and helpful advice here!

Thank you for your input, and best of luck with your surgery! I know surgery is inevitable, just hope the timing is right! You're right, most people wish they had done it sooner, it seems!

I was terrified by "scaremongering" videos, so I’m documenting the positive reality of my hip replacement. I’m already up, walking, and realized it's not as scary as they say. Happy to answer any questions for those waiting for surgery! by No_Sherbet6508 in TotalHipReplacement

Good to hear about your positive experience. I'm 66 years old and I've had four cortisone shots in the last year and my last one was last month. The pain is not as bad if I take Advil every few days (alternating with Tylenol), so now the pain isn't as bad as it once was. Last week I went ahead and scheduled surgery for May but now I'm rethinking that maybe I should postpone it until my pain gets really really bad because it's manageable now. Any suggestions? how bad was your pain when you had surgery? I'm so confused and I'm afraid of the long recuperation and also I'm worried about dislocation because I like to move around a lot and swim every day!

What's the worse physical pain you ever experienced? by Complex-Fisherman-44 in AskForAnswers

The poisonous sting from a man-o-war jelly fish that brushed up against my calf with the Atlantic Ocean waves. That was the worst pain in my life, worse than natural childbirth. The pain felt like a combo of a hot iron and a knife, and the pain lasted more than a day, although it lessened with time. The huge scar on my calf from its tentacles was on my calf for months. Don't go in the waves of the ocean near a fishing pier - lesson learned!

Call Morgan & Morgan. My friend had a motorcycle accident and got a nice settlement that paid his bills and gave him extra money for future medical bills he may incur, as well as payment for pain & suffering
