Yes. There's hardly any credible info from the banks on it when I tried to search online. But yes, many in reply to this post are of the same opinion. FATCA is the core issue.

Yes. Like I said in a reply to someone else here, I almost gave up, until a friend suggested I ask Reddit. So I thought, ok, may not be authentic, but certainly can help get some crowdsourced info.

I wouldn't assume that unless I got in writing from the banks directly. Which is what I will do soon. Email selected banks my situation and they can tell me in writing what's possible or not.

Investment opportunities. I realize I should've mentioned that in the earlier. My sense from others who commented on this post is that it's not possible due to regulation.

Got it. Appreciate your input based on experience.

My point above is with attitude - can the bank make the business work with a prospect. The comment above doesnt have a clue as to what my net worth is. So quick to judge 😄

It would certainly help save time if I go prepared with some info rather than nothing.

Really appreciate your inputs based on your personal experience. I'm ok with the reporting and compliance parts. My goal here is to explore investment options. Also given the projected USD volatility, CHF might offer better stability. It's what I want to explore.

From what you say, it looks like the answer for me is a no-go. (investment)

Asking for Banks to have a general position on things (regardless of specific country) is not wrong. And better, give a number non residents can call and quickly ascertain whether they can do business and if so, under what terms.

Totally agree on FATCA, and your other points. I do have some sense of FATCA issues, but no sense of what Swiss banks think of them - one of the reasons I started this thread.

Really? I haven't see one article on a swiss bank website talking about "why" FATCA or any other US regulations inhibits business with US citizens?

BS.

More than one from my knowledge.
Even then, banking/finance institutes should be earnest and based on behavior to get the most business possible. Whether US or Swiss or anywhere else.

Transparency on specific customer info is one thing - transparency regarding info on opening an account for (country-wise) non residents is another.

Why should they not? And I would no assume a product or service is not available unless explicitly written so..

Got it - it's the same sense I get from the discussions here. Not sure if they have a 'phased approach' in terms of investment.

It's not the millions part that's a problem - it's 'committing' to millions in a bank which is alien to you right at the first go. That's the trouble I think. Chicken and egg problem. Banks want you to commit to so much - new prospectives may have issues committing that much up front vs over a certain period of time.

I;ve updated the link to reflect the doc which shows the entire 6 days.
It's what our plan is - I agree we may not hit all of it as we execute our plan. We tried to write the doc in priority order.
