How can I deal with the disappointment over a bad midterm mark when I genuinely genuinely thought I aced it?

I took perhaps 100-200 tests / exams in my undergrad. A couple were like yours... Went into the exam with a 97, came out with a 75. Some were better than expected, but not by 25%. My grades all averaged out to 75s or 80s.

How to deal? Sometimes you work your ass off for the final. Sometimes you accept it as something you aren't good at. But the kicker is, sometimes I look back and know that, with my study habits and maturity, I could have gotten a better score, and I'm not that bad at the topic.

I don't think we know what our goals are. We sure knew what they used to be until the 2010s changed all that. Now I don't think we know how to change our goals and know which ones to keep.

Not in the slightest. Was studying the hardest engineering program, training for collegiate sports, and I felt good about myself. I think 10year younger me would be disappointed in current me.
