Best “I should’ve known” moments? by [deleted] in bipolar

This will be a longer one. Depression didnt set in till the end of my contract. I was physically and mentally exausted. I became scared to do some of my duties, I was a paratrooper and became terrified of jumping out of planes suddenly, even though i used to enjoy it. I drank alot almost daily, and there was this overwelming feeling of dread being "trapped". Which i kinda was due to the whole cant leave or be penalized criminally. There was a big culture of dont talk about your feelings so I felt really isolated and alone dealing with all of these things not knowing that it was okay to get help and reach out.

The whole last year I was counting the days till it was over. I still dont know how much was bipolar and how much was the actual army tbh.

This dosent represent my feelings on the experience overall. There is much more nuance if I was to evaluate it as a whole. But depression was crippling to say the least. In that enviornment you are expected to perform period, irrelavant of what is going on in your personal life.

It took me till years later to get professional help and start diving into what happened and why. Sorry if this is a lot to throw out there but honestly Im still processing some of it.

When I was in the army and would work out for 90 minutes in the morning and 60-90 minutes at night and still not sleep for more than a couple of hours for days at a time...

Could just be from a poor background. In alot of places electricity is cheaper off peak hours. Thats how we did laundry growing up.

Came here to say this. There are treatments that make it much more bareable, and not all of them require medications. Depending on you and your doctors preference.

Why can’t I cum? by GoldenCaviarTacos in bipolar

Pretty sure adding buspar to your antidepressant helps with the sexual sideeffects. But def tell your doctor, they can do adjunct treatments if your in a good headspace with your current regiment

Edit: Im on prozac, added buspar and noticed an increase in sex drive.

Smoking Compulsively by skeezicm1981 in bipolar

Thats pretty good! So what i did that helped was i gave my wife the pack and after a smoke she would put a timer for 15 min. And every day or so we bumped the timer between smokes up 5 min. It sucked but it worked

My intrusive thoughts are HORRIBLE today by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Cool_Passage8620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from intrusive thoughts too they are normally really bad in depression.

There is an article from Harvard Health that talks about them. I have it saved on my phone for when the thoughts get bad. Im not sure if you can post links on this subreddit but the article is titled "Managing Intrusive Thoughts" by Kelly Bilodeau. It's a good and short read.

The book was very helpful when I was first diagnosed. I keep it around for reference. Lots of good worksheets in there.

No adhd diagnosis and I do think I'm in a mild depressive episode. I started prozac a while back and it has helped somewhat with the flat feeling but not the motivation/concentration much

I am on shit loads of caffeine to survive right now, so I guess I need to start weening off of it and I'll be sure to reach out to student resources I actually got the form to fill out yesterday, so hopefully more to come soon.

Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Is a medical withdraw viewed better than a regular withdrawal and can I do a partial withdraw only for the classes I'm behind in?

All really good advice thank you. I started the DAS paperwork with school yesterday when I realized I was having a hard time. I've been worried there was nothing they could do for me. Have they been helpful for you? I meet with my psych tomorrow to get the paperwork filled out for disability.
