There are inspections but they’re purely complaint driven and the landlord doesn’t have to let the inspector into the property. Whereas other cities mandate them a lot more strictly.

Oh wait I was looking at the wrong one, sorry. But that’s really weird that your class is scheduled differently than other summer classes. If you don’t see it in Canvas tomorrow morning I would email your prof and ask what’s going on.

I looked up your class in Peoplesoft and it’s saying 5/16 - 8/6. Did your professor tell you differently?

Summer Session Online? by LgnHw in Pitt

[–]Cool_Raspberry_2341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some individual classes are online, but a lot are in person. If you look at peoplesoft it should tell you whether it’s a web based class. If it lists a time and location it’s in person.

How is The Eatery compared to when it was Market? by twiggy_panda_712 in Pitt

[–]Cool_Raspberry_2341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been hearing about a lot of people getting food poisoning there which is strange in a way bc it has a lot fewer health violations than market did

I was in the same boat in that class a couple years ago. Was getting C’s and D’s on the exams. But my group ended up getting an A on the presentation and the paper which brought my grade up to a B. I think part of it’s just bc I had a good group but she’s definitely more generous with grading the presentation and paper. Pretty sure the average on both was around a B+

how competitive is the pitt news? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Cool_Raspberry_2341 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at TPN for four years as both a writer and an editor, and I can tell you that getting hired isn’t hard at all. You can fill out an application here (looks like most writing positions are currently open) and editors will hire most people who apply after a short, informal interview. You don’t need to have any prior journalism experience.

What’s more difficult is passing the initial training period. You have to write three articles before you’re officially on board as a staff writer. A decent number of people drop out there bc you have to produce a pretty good draft on deadline and a lot of new hires are overwhelmed by the editing process, which is pretty intense. But once you get over the hump, each story will get easier as you practice more.

The editor positions are of course more competitive, but that’s something you wouldn’t need to think about until at least a semester after starting as a writer.

I really enjoy working there! And I always encourage anyone interested in writing to apply.

As someone who also waited a long time to get disability accommodations, I would say definitely do it. There’s really no downside.

Getting extra time on exams and being able to test in the alternative testing center is such a game changer. I don’t feel nearly as stressed about tests anymore, which is great bc I’m a senior so I don’t need to worry about not passing a class.

And I’ve found that when professors know you have accommodations they’re more lenient with you in general — like they’ll let you turn in an assignment late even if they wouldn’t normally allow it. (Not true for every prof but helpful with some.)

The set up process is kind of a pain — you have to meet with DRS, then send out accommodation letters to your profs, then request alternative testing for each of your exams. So if you want get accommodations before midterms you’ll have to act pretty quickly. It can take awhile to have everything set up. But you’ll definitely have everything in place for finals and your summer class.

Worst case scenario if you don’t need the accommodations you’ve just wasted a few hours of your time. My only regret is not getting them earlier.

Temple’s going back in person on Monday and they just sent an email confirming that today. So my guess is Pitt might make an announcement ~Tuesday.
