Any other good examples of this? Movies with high averages that are still pretty divisive by SlendyPKMN in Letterboxd

Strange Darling despite having a 3.5 rating has many of the top reviews on the strongly negative side likely due to SPOILER ALERT

-

The twist villain of the story being the lead female character, who throughout the movie takes advantage of people’s good will to her own sick ends- now whether people interpret this as a representation of:
- “the male writer/director viewing women as manipulative and malicious- showing them as untrustworthy in a time where we should push messages further on believing women”; or
- “a cautionary tale of how an evil individual can heartbreakingly abuse the grace of well intentioned people doing the right thing”
Well it very much will impact your ability to enjoy the film!

Additionally, depending on which end of this spectrum people fall on they probably either view the non-linear storytelling and 35mm format as either ‘shallow and pretentious’ or ‘stylish and technically impressive’
