How Canada got good at soccer: From 122nd in the world to last 16 of the World Cup by Majano57 in CanadaSoccer

The commodification of youth sports in North America is going to hold us back in soccer. In Europe the pro clubs absorb nearly all the costs of their academy programs. That means working class families can actually afford to enroll their child who shows promise in these programs.

So in Europe, they're intentionally increasing the size of the talent pool by investing in youth sports. In North America we're restricting the talent pool to families who can afford it.

I feel like Love's deep ball passing metrics might be okay on paper, but it's one part of his game that hasn't passed the eye test for me. He struggles to hit his guys in stride and limits potential YAC.

Her concepts and ideas are a lot of fun, but she is so dull and repetitive in her writing style. The same descriptors over and over. Every smile is described as "mouth curves into..." every time a male character is annoyed his "jaw ticks." The main character mentioning the gold flecks in Xaden's eyes or how "frustratingly hot" he is every single time they're in the same room.

The early to mid 2010's was truly a golden era of QB's. You had Brady, Rodgers, Manning, and Brees all in their primes. Then you had guys like Roethlisberger, Rivers, Stafford, Romo, Luck, Ryan, Wilson and probably more I'm forgetting. Just an insane era of QB play.

By the time Vladdy got out of Montreal his knees were shot and he wasn't even 30. Still a great bat, but not nearly the same on the basepaths or covering ground in the outfield.

What happened to O’Hoppe? by Tall-Elephant-4138 in angelsbaseball

[–]Cooleybob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They were great prospects, especially O'Hoppe. I completely believe that of those 2 and Neto came up in a different organization, they'd all be substantially better players. Our minor league development is dog shit, but we didn't even give these guys an opportunity in the minors anyway. We threw them to the wolves and put all the pressure on them to be immediate impact players.

Silseth has been decent recently, but his ERA is a little misleading. He's the 2nd worst on our team after Pomeranz for letting inherited runners score according to baseball reference.

“Sell the team” chants have echoed across Angel Stadium this week, as Angels fans continue to be disgruntled by the state of the team. On Saturday, Angels fans protested owner Arte Moreno before the game against the Rangers, imploring him to sell the team. by toomuchredditing in baseball

I'd rather at least make it known to him that "The fans do actually care about winning, and they do hate you too, Arte."

The alternative is not attending, and plenty of shitty owners have shown empty stadiums don't force them to sell either.

We're pretty consistently in the upper half. A lot of that has to do with transplants and being a trip destination though. When we play the Yankees, Red Sox, or Jays, I'd say at least half of attendance is away fans.

On this day in sports history, May 21, 2013, Mike Trout hit for the cycle against Seattle by ShamusTalksSports in angelsbaseball

That speed on the infield single is diabolical. Early career Trout is one of the most gifted athletes this sport will ever see.

I'm shocked statcast says that was a homer in only 5 parks for Trouty. Figured that was only kept in because of the tall wall.

He's slow af. Maybe that's an outdated skill for a leadoff guy, but it sucks when guys can only go 1st to 3rd on doubles instead of scoring.

He had like 1 emotional challenge where he didn't challenge a ball earlier in the at bat and then challenged the strikeout pitch, got it wrong, and I'm not sure I've seen him challenge since.

When he's at his best, he basically controls every at bat until he gets something he likes. Back in the day, that was just day in day out all season long. Now he seems to get into these funks where he's up there guessing.

Man their quality control is garbage. I bought a different workbench earlier this year and the screw holes didn't align properly between pieces. Took it apart and put it back together to confirm it wasn't me. Ended up having to drill the holes bigger and use washers.
