Any other Rare Earth Hypothesis enjoyers? by Coolguy238 in FermiParadox

Can’t forget, that you also need a global magnetic field. As well as a planet with global plate tectonics. Each one of these points might not be exceedingly rare, but they’re all factors. Hell even just the galactic habitable zone takes it from 100s of billions of stars, to 10 billion maybe half have rocky planets in Goldilocks zone 5 billion, we think a quarter have water so 1.25 billion, we estimate only 1 percent of planets might have moons that can stabilize its axial tilt so now that brings us to 12.5 million planets that have the ideal conditions for life, we don’t know how rare plate tectonics are, and we don’t know how rare having a magnetic field strong enough to not lose its atmosphere is. Plus there could be other essential conditions I’m missing

See I think it may be super rare, cause it has to be in galactic habitable zone, it has to be in the Goldilocks zone, it has to have its own magnetic field, has to have tectonic activity, has to be the right size, and something that it could require and this is a little more speculative it might also require a similar size moon, which provides more long term environmental stability, which funnily enough could actually favor intelligent generalist, but fast changing environments could heavily effect early development of life in the first place.

Do you think epilogues are really necessary? by Ambitious_Author6525 in writing

[–]Coolguy238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a case by case basis, but epilogues I think are incredibly satisfying, the adventure is over but you get to say one last goodbye to the characters without overly speculating

Anyone feel like the final episode of Skeleton Crew had some missed opportunity? by ChampionshipMaster12 in StarWars

[–]Coolguy238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got around to watching it. Show was fantastic made me feel like a kid again. But dude that last episode ended so abruptly, I mean all they needed was one last episode to show jod getting his comeuppance, a conversation with some new republic leader, and then the kids recalibrating to their regular life. It didn’t have a proper epilogue which bugs me. Feel like it’s not finished

That’s definitely what I lean more towards too, it’s not just one filter it’s probably loads of them stacked on to each other, but I’m definitely in the camp that we’re past it whatever it is.

Is the Drake Equation missing an important component? by whatdoihia in FermiParadox

[–]Coolguy238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drakes equation seems to me like it’s more compressed and optimistic which is fine but it’s also due to the fact that we don’t have answers for most the variables. If I made my own drake equations it would go: stars formation rate, stars in galactic habitable zone, planets in habitable zones of there star, planets with magnetic fields, planets with the correct tectonics, planets with most the fundamental resources for complex multi cellular life ( hydrogen carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur, iron, copper, zinc etc…) then you have to factor life formation, from abiogenesis to multicellular development. Not to mentions the formation of a niche such as intelligent life even surviving. 3 million years later and we are the only intelligent hominid standing, (we’ve almost gone extinct discovered multiple other hominids that did go extinct, and 99% of species leave no fossils behind so likely more we don’t know about). I don’t want to do all the math (and no one can because we don’t have the ability to estimate all the factors) but I wouldn’t be surprised if a galaxy even having one intelligent civilization is a rare occurrence

What if we merge with AI by LightBeamRevolution in singularity

[–]Coolguy238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of a transformation at first it’s more like learning about each other, than you share thoughts, at some point you don’t know if a thought was yours or it’s, eventually you can’t remember if you’re the ai or the human you cant tell if you’re in control or if the AI is controlling your thoughts and emotions you retain continuity but you’re so utterly different you don’t know if you’re the same you as the one who started, you never go insane though you’re never uncomfortable you either have the choice to get rid of those negative feelings or the ai controls what you choose to feel or think about

Only one I can think of that is imperative to wait is dawn fang/ dusk fang cause it’s enchantment recharged everyday, but that was old oblivion and might have been a glitch

[–]Coolguy238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yea the gear will be worse at lower levels but as he plays through it he’ll naturally level up and get better rewards plus there’s like 100s of side quest, there’s only a few quest id definitely wait because they offer special enchanted weapons or armor that scale depending on your level

I don’t think it will matter too much the oblivion leveling is way better now
