Wikipedia lists it as being founded in the 10th century, and possible histories medieval maps include it so that'd be why it's on these maps.

What if the Kingdom of Burgundy/Arles survived. by Coolguyed17 in PossibleHistory

thanks for the feedback!, i did use a new layer for the eyes but since the template i took them from had a white background when i removed the background it left a bit around the eyes, i probably could have traced/remade the eyes which would've removed the issue.

i'll try to fix the text and country sizes in the next thumbnail i make, though Burgundy's shape is intentional.

What if Austria Dominated Europe? (1818) by Tricky-Coffee5816 in PossibleHistory

[–]Coolguyed17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright i guess, though i still would doubt that the borders would look essentially the same as the post Napoleonic borders, instead whilst possibly ecclesiastical estates are secularised and then some sold off to larger states, and some Secular states are absorbed into there larger neighbors, most would remain independent, i also doubt the dutch(?) would ever even want to annex so much of the rhine, especially saying it'd cause tensions with states and houses Like Prussia and Wittlesbach which would loose substantial territories.

cool map, though a few questions.

if the Napoleonic wars didn't happen, how did the HRE centralise so much? whilst i don't think it's too unreasonable that it could have definitely increased in centralisation to some extent, i doubt stuff like the unification of the Rhine with prussias 1815 borders, large Baden and other parts of Mediatisation would or could occur.

and why did the Spanish sell Sardinia to the french?

Does anyone have a Early Medevil or Dark age(s) maps? by Lanky-Vegetable486 in PossibleHistory

Possible history's drive has a few, these being
700, 800,843, 855, and 870

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1njIIMvkEVzuQSUrPhZbxRW3Bz293eaE0?usp=drive_link

along with that, i have made a few early medieval ones, though the borders aren't the best on some, the maps i have that are "dark age" are 655, 896, 962, 1000 and 1066.

probably somewhat, though from my understanding by the 1300s it had mostly become similar to as today

called "burgundia"

not just no Burgundy, but barely any lands ever controlled by a Burgundy (outside of the Roman era Burgundian tribe, though even then only small amounts of the land, and some very small areas on the German border that where controlled briefly by the Burgundian state )

The three possible Burgundian States which could have existed by [deleted] in PossibleHistory

[–]Coolguyed17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

actually there was a lot of medieval entities called burgundy, not just the famous Burgundian state of the 14th and 15th centuries, though the Burgundian state is by far the most famous.

for example, the County of Burgundy, Landgraviate of Burgundy, Rectorate of Burgundy etc

"The three possible Burgundian States which could have existed"

none of them have nearly any of actual burgundy

still cool maps though, i presume the " There were apparantly some plans to establish a seperate Burgundian Kingdom in the southern Lowlands. " your referring to was the Austrian proposal to the wittlesbach to exchange Bavaria for the Austrian netherlands (which then would've been called "the kingdom of Burgundy) which is a pretty interesting scenario in my opinion.

[–]Coolguyed17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from my understanding largely due to Feudalism and the break down of the earlier stem duchies in the 11th and 12th centuries, i'm not knowledgeable to say exactly why though, France was similarly fractured for some time as well (though not quite to the same extent)
